LONDON (AP) — Oakland Raiders coach Jon Gruden insists he’s not shopping Amari Cooper to other teams. He’s more worried about the wide receiver’s health after a helmet-to-helmet hit knocked Cooper out of Sunday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks.Gruden denied a report by Fox Sports before the game that the Raiders (1-5) have been in discussions to trade Cooper Womens Derek Carr Jersey , the two-time Pro Bowler who was being evaluated for a concussion after a hit from safety Bradley McDougald during the 27-3 loss at Wembley Stadium.“I haven’t heard that,” Gruden said about any trade talks. “I’m just sorry I have to deal with a lot of these reports. But I just hope Amari is OK. Like I say, he’s going to be a big part of our pass offense.”The hit from McDougald came early in the second quarter after Cooper couldn’t hold on to a low pass from Derek Carr. Cooper stayed down on the ground for treatment before being taken to the locker room for evaluation. There was no flag on the play, but Gruden said it should have been called for a helmet-to-helmet hit.“I thought so,” Gruden said. “I’m just hoping Amari is OK. I’m not going to say anything else. I hope he’s all right. He’s a great kid.”McDougald defended the hit as simply being part of the Seahawks’ style of being physical on defense.“That’s our style of play. That’s kind of the Seahawks’ identity,” McDougald said. “Don’t get me wrong — we’re not trying to injure guys. We’re not trying to take guys out of the game. We’re just trying to really play physical. . I wish nothing bad on Amari Cooper. I hope he gets healthy. But we’re just trying to set a tone out there that we’re just trying to be physical when you touch the ball.”and forced two fumbles from the quarterback, which led to 10 Seattle points.Carr, who said he was OK despite leaving the field holding his left arm gingerly following Oakland’s last drive, was also surprised that McDougald wasn’t called for a penalty.“I was. I asked (the officials) obviously,” Carr said. “I didn’t really see how the guy hit him. I can’t stand here and say I saw, exactly, hit him in the head or anything like that. I just saw the outcome and I tried to defend my teammate. I ran over there and was yelling and all that. . I just wanted to protect my guy.” Antonio Brown spoke for the first time since his injury." />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesSilver And Black Pride homepageHorizontal - WhiteSilver And Black Pridean Oakland Raiders communityFollow Silver And Black Pride online:Follow Silver And Black Pride on TwitterFollow Silver And Black Pride on FacebookLog in or sign upLog InSign UpSite searchSearchSearchSilver And Black Pride main menuFanpostsFanshotsRaidersOddsAboutMastheadCommunity GuidelinesStubHubMoreAll 321 blogs on Horizontal - WhiteFanposts Fanshots Raiders StoriesScheduleRosterStatsYahoo Raiders NewsYahoo Raiders Team PageYahoo Raiders ReportYahoo Raiders Depth ChartYahoo Raiders TransactionsYahoo Raiders PhotosOdds About Masthead Community Guidelines StubHub ✕Raiders confident Antonio Brown will be ready for season, agent says helmet issue overblownNew,29commentsAntonio Brown spoke for the first time since his injury.PDTEverywhere Antonio Brown goes, drama follows. Some of it by his own making Antonio Brown Raiders Jersey , and some of it exaggerated by the media. When you’re arguably the best receiver football and have a larger than life personality which you express on social media as often as Brown does, the kind of coverage you get is somewhat understandable. With his very vocal exit from Pittsburgh this offseason, along with dying his mustache blonde and putting out multiple videos demanding he be paid what he’s worth, he became quite a punching bag, especially from Pittsburgh media. So, when Brown was placed on NFI to begin camp, he wasn’t treated like any other player who had an injury. He was treated like ‘here we go, it’s AB being AB’ and that continued with every detail that was revealed about his injury. While most players would receive sympathy for suffering injuries to his feet, somehow Brown was fair game to be laughed at and ridiculed for it.In fairness to some, it was a bizarre injury. Frostbite? On his feet? From a cryogenic chamber? Wut?Then while we’re all waiting each day to see if and when he will return to the field, it’s revealed that he has a grievance with the NFL about his helmet. That turned the talk up a few notches and it was already pretty high. This new issue was lumped in with the foot issue as the cause for his absence from camp, with some reports even suggesting he was threatening to retire if he didn’t get to wear his old Schutt Air Advantage helmet. Gruden didn’t buy into the talk of Brown’s supposed retirement and his agent Drew Rosenhaus said flat out that those reports had “no legitimacy” and that the seriousness of his grievance was way overblown.“It was just getting healthy. The helmet wasn’t a focal point as much as the feet were,” said Rosenhaus. “I mean he had a major injury. And this is not a typical injury for a football team to deal with so he was off seeing an expert to get lasers. It’s different treatment for frostbite and a burn like that. It wasn’t his intent to leave the team for the time that he did, he’s always had a good line of communication with the club and the Raiders and the NFL are actually working very closely with us right now to get the helmet resolved.”Neither Rosenhaus nor Brown are saying exactly how the injury occurred because they could pursue legal action against the cryogenic therapy company where the injury was suffered.Brown is not ready to practice yet, but he showed up late into practice Tuesday just to clear the air a little bit.“I’m extremely grateful to be here Womens Bo Jackson Jersey ,” said Brown. “Just dealing with a lot of adversity. I’m excited to be back and see my teammates and get in the groove of things shortly.”That’s as close to a timeline as Brown would give as to when he will return to practice, adding that he feels “A lot better. Working towards 100%. It’s been a process with the feet. Any time you got a lot of blisters and it’s hard to change direction and cut and run and do what I do naturally, but I‘m going to start from the good foot, I’m been away getting a lot of work, so I’m excited to just move forward.”Among the reports out there with regard to Brown was that he had not been in contact with the team. Gruden didn’t deny this when I asked him about it after the game Saturday, and he has long said he didn’t know what the details or severity of Brown’s injury was. Rosenhaus is saying they had constant contact with the team and Gruden is saying he knew all along where Brown was and what was going on with him.“We’ve had a pretty good understanding of the foot injury,” said Gruden. “We know where he’s been, we know what he’s been through, we’re thrilled to have him back and obviously we think he’s a great player and we’re anxious to get the men together and get rolling.”The fans will obviously want to believe everything that was said today that everything has been fine and all the media reports were fake news, but there was plenty of truth in those reports. Even if some of them may have veered into hyperbole bordering on misinformation. The helmet thing was very likely overblown. As frustrated as Brown may have been, there’s no way he was going to retire over this. He may have tried to sneak his old helmet onto the field, but whatever. The timing of the appeal hearing was a coincidence with regard to the mystery of his prolonged absence.“Hopefully he’ll be back on the field soon, but the injury was the reason that he was away from the team, one. Two, the helmet is something we’ve been working on for months Womens Antonio Brown Jersey ,” said Rosenhaus. “And we’ve been working with the NFL and working with the Raiders to figure out a solution.”They think they’ve found that solution. Brown can use a bit of a loophole by obtaining a Schutt Air Advantage helmet that has been manufactured in the last ten years. According to Rosenhaus, they’ve found several.“We’ve located helmets that have been manufactured within the last ten years so that eliminates the ten year rule. Now we have to get those reconditioned and then we have to get them certified by NOCSAE and then the NFL has to approve it. So, it’s all reasonable.”The NFL says eliminating the use of his old helmet is a safety issue. Rosenhaus and Brown say NOT using it is a safety issue. It’s about the visibility the old helmet provides. Not for catching the ball, but for catching the defender bearing down on him.“He’s comfortable with this helmet, he can see people trying to hit him, take his head off, knock him out, knock him out of the game,” said Rosenhaus. “It’s a very physical game, especially for a superstar like Antonio and having the proper helmet not only to protect you physically, but to also be able to use it visually was important to him. That’s the only thing he’s played in.”The most important thing about all of this is it sounds like it will all be resolved soon. Gruden finally said with confidence that Brown will be ready for the season from his foot injury – something he was unwilling to say before – and AB is resolving his helmet grievance as well. All’s well that ends well and it sounds like this drama will be winding down shortly and everyone can get back to focusing on preparing for the upcoming season. Follow @LeviDamien

It started with the rehiring of former head coach turned TV analyst Jon Gruden to be head coach. Gruden then selected Mike Mayock, the most respected TV draft analyst for the past couple decades, to be GM.Now they have done it again, bringing onboard longtime Pro Football Weekly draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki. There used to be a pretty defined separation between the media and the coaching and front offices. it was usually a one way street with coaches and executives heading to television. But not often the other way around.Nawrocki is often known for not sugar coating his opinions of draft prospects, drawing a good amount of controversy. His most controversial opinions were of several high profile draft quarterbacks. In particular his trashing of the characters of JaMarcus Russell, Cam Newton, Geno Smith, and Johnny Manziel Womens Derek Carr Jersey , suggesting they will not have NFL success. Three out of four aint bad. And some might suggest he wasn’t entirely wrong about Cam Newton’s character either despite Newton’s success in the league.Regardless of the troll level status Nawrocki seems to have developed in his career, he’s still consistently one of the most respected draft scouts out there. His emphasis on the character of players aligns with Gruden and Mayock’s emphasis as well. And, as it happens, Nawrocki credits Al Davis for helping to land him his spot as the successor to legendary PFW draft analyst Joel Buschsbaum. Davis was once a part owner of the magazine and at Nawrocki’s first scouting combine, Davis walked him around to meet NFL front office personnel. A few years later, in 2007, Davis wouldn’t listen to Nawrocki when he warned any prospective team of drafting JaMarcus Russell. He wrote that Russell showed a “lackadaisical approach to the game” and predicted that he would “require very tough coaching from a strong authoritative figure.”He particularly warned Al Davis, whose Raiders had the number one overall pick that year, that Russell had bust written all over him.“I had three conversations with Al Davis that year,” Nawrocki said in a 2014 interview with Deadspin... “I told him that he should take Calvin Johnson or Adrian Peterson. That was the guy I was trying to help out. I know where Al was at that point in his career: He had lost some of the ears on the ground that he may have had when he was a little sharper. But Al was going to do what what Al was going to do.”Davis Womens Antonio Brown Jersey , of course, made Russell the number one overall pick and Russell went on to become the biggest bust in NFL history. While Calvin Johnson and Adrian Peterson are probably both headed for the Hall of Fame one day. Hinsight is 20/20. Nawrocki claims to have had foresight on that one. Gruden and Mayock want that foresight on their side.Follow @LeviDamien The Raiders currently have 8 picks to work with in the draft this year. Can you predict them? It’s Sunday morning. If you’re in a jurisdiction where sports wagering is now legal Womens Dwayne Haskins Jersey , you may be thinking about your NFL bets.If you’re in a jurisdiction where it still isn’t, you may be doing the same thing. as you can before you make your own decisions. So consider the “best bets” from the joint #PFTPM/Chris Simms Unbuttoned Thursday podcast. We each pick three games against the spread as the games about which we feel the most confident. This week, we picked two of the same teams.I could tell you to watch the video to find out who those teams are, or I could just name them here for those of you who don’t want to watch the video. Given that someone inevitably will post a comment identifying the two teams, here they are.Rams and 49ers.If you appreciate the transparency that allows you to not watch the video Dwayne Haskins Jersey White , maybe there’s a way to show that appreciation. I’m not sure what it would be.Unrelatedly, please watch the video. Josh Doctson was selected one pick ahead of Laquon Treadwell in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, but he’ll be following in Treadwell’s footsteps in Minnesota.Doctson was waived by Washington on Saturday around the same time that the Vikings cut Treadwell after three dismal seasons. Neither player was claimed by another team and Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Vikings are signing Doctson. The move gives the Vikings the fifth receiver that head coach Mike Zimmer suggested they’d be signing after only keeping four on their initial 53-man roster. Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, Chad Beebe and Olabisi Johnson make up that quartet. It also reunites Doctson with Kirk Cousins after the duo hooked up for 37 catches for 568 yards and six touchdowns over 18 games together in Washington. Doctson had 44 catches for 532 yards and two touchdowns while playing without Cousins last year.
The Raiders lost yet another game today. In other news Derek Carr Jersey White , the sky is blue, water is wet, and cats are jerks. The Raiders didn’t score a touchdown again and their run defense got beaten like a drum, but there was no lack of effort this week like there was against the 49ers. There were a few bright spots.WINNERS1) Johnny TownsendWhere has this performance been all year? Townsend was great in the kicking game today, but we’ll get to that. The first time Townsend saw the field, he was unleashed like the Kraken on a 42-yard run that set the Raiders up for they first points of the game. In doing so, he reached a top speed of 20.48 MPH, faster than any rush from either Alvin Kamara or Kareem Hunt this season. Usain Bolt was last seen looking over his shoulder. As a punter, Townsend was gold today. He had three devastating punts against the Bolts, averaging 54 yards per punt. That’s worlds better than the sub-30 YPP he’s been sporting much of this season. Is this the new Johnny Townsend? Let’s hope so.2) Melvin GordonThere’s a big difference between the Chargers now and the Chargers of a few years ago, and it’s the emergence of Melvin Gordon as an elite running back. He had 18 carries for 93 yards against the Raider rush defense, to go along with five catches for 72 yards including a 66-yard catch and run for a touchdown on a screen pass. 3) Brandon LaFellWith the Raiders trading Amari Cooper, one might think the Raiders don’t have a true number one receiver. And, they don’t. But LaFell has been doing his best to fill that role, and he clearly has the trust of Derek Carr. LaFell had four catches for 47 yards today in a solid performance. I don’t know if he’ll be around next year, but he’s doing his best right now.4) Maurice HurstOnce again, Hurst shows why he is a draft steal for the Raiders. He had Oakland’s lone sack to go with four tackles, one for loss. On a line with more pressure from the outside, Hurst would be even more valuable, but as it is he is the only guy on the line who can consistently disrupt the offensive plays. Clinton McDonald and Jonathan Hankins also had good efforts today, but Hurst really shined.LOSERS1) Raiders offensive lineI want to be clear that this refers specifically to the Raiders’ woes in pass protection. They were perfectly fine in the running game, and the team rushed for 114 yards. However, they were abysmal protecting Carr, allowing four sacks. The rookie tackles were awful, and it’s clear that Kolton Miller is still hurt. There were a few instances when Kelechi Osemele was absolutely taken to the cleaners, and that cannot happen. Carr is as good as anyone when he has protection, but when he’s under pressure he makes mental errors. For that reason Womens Bo Jackson Jersey , a performance like this is unacceptable.2) Raiders secondaryThis was actually a better effort from the back end of the defense than what we’ve seen from them lately, and I’ll wager that the absence of Reggie Nelson contributed to that. But the tackling was abysmal, and Charger receivers were able to pick up extra yards on third down almost every time. The tackling was non-existent on Melvin Gordon’s touchdown catch, which put the game out of reach for the Chargers. That being said, Karl Joseph did pop some people pretty hard today.3) Red Zone offenseNeither team had much success in the red zone today. The only touchdown in the red zone was a Charger score from Keenan Allen just before the end of the first half, but other than that the Raiders’ red zone defense was stalwart. The Oakland red zone offense was trash yet again, and their execution in goal-to-go situations this season has been horrific.4) The PatriotsI can only pick on the Raiders so much. We all know the season is over, and the only thing left to play for is draft position. This team isn’t even worth whining about, because it’s in complete transition and doesn’t resemble anything close to how it will look in a few years. But for the Patriots, change is scary and cruel. Today they got absolutely shellacked by the Titans, and it’s the worst beating Tom Brady has ever taken in the winter. It’s looking like the road to the Super Bowl won’t be running through New England this season, which is good for anyone who is sick and tired of them winning all the time, and bad for anyone who doesn’t want the Chiefs to go to the Super Bowl. I choose to forget Kansas City, just for today, and have a hearty belly laugh at the Patriots. I advise you all to do the same. Burfict was a highly talented linebacker out of Arizona State who went undrafted because of discipline and character concerns. He certainly brought those to the NFL with him, coming to be known as one of league’s dirtiest players.Despite these issues, he and Guenther hit it off; first as his position coach and then as the defensive coordinator. What started off their bond? Golf. “He was my linebackers coach in Cincinnati,” said Burfict. “You know how that relationship goes, you see him every day. And I don’t know, we just started talking about golfing around that time because I was just getting new to golf and we went out and played a couple holes and ever since then it was like man, this is my guy and I trust him and he tells me little things about defense and offense that can give you keys and in Cincinnati it made me a smarter football player.”Most teams wouldn’t consider Burfict worth the trouble. Case in point, a year after Guenther left to become the Raiders defensive coordinator, the Bengals dropped Burfict like a hot rock. The moment they did, both he and Guenther knew where he was meant to be.“I’ve spent a lot of time with him obviously in Cincinnati as both his position coach and as coordinator and any time you can add a guy with his talent and knowledge of the system, when he became available, it was very attractive to us Bo Jackson Jersey ,” Guenther said of Burfict. “He knows the system inside and out, he can get us in and out of calls. I think some of the returning players are seeing the knowledge and the system he has out here on the practice field, so it’s good to have him.”After missing the team’s first OTA, Burfict was in with the first team by the second open media OTA the following week. He would step in for drills, and when the second team would step in, Burfict would head straight to Guenther standing in the back of the defense and exchange notes in much the same way you see Derek Carr leave the field and go straight to Gruden. “It’s like having a quarterback that you’ve coached back there, so you can get in and out of calls at the line of scrimmage,” Guenther continued. “Last year we didn’t do that as much. We did it a few times and I just felt like it was a lot for the guys in the first year of the system to put that added weight on them. Now in year two adding a guy that can and having another year in the system, guys will pick it up a lot faster.”Middle linebacker was a revolving door last season. First it was Tahir Whitehead calling the plays from the middle. Then Whitehead was moved to strongside linebacker and Maquell Lee took over in the middle. Then late in the season he switched in and out with undrafted rookie Jason Cabinda. It was not ideal. Some of these guys would figure to be more comfortable at the position coming into their second year in Guenther’s scheme. But no one would be more comfortable with it than a guy who spent his first six NFL seasons in that scheme.“It helps a lot,” Whitehead said of Burfict’s addition. “Having a guy that’s extremely familiar with the scheme for the most part of his career, I believe. Six years he was in the system. Being in the system for that length of time, you know the nuances of the defense, all of the checks, all of the calls, and just having Vontaze has definitely been a huge help.”Basically the entire linebacking corps from last year is back this year. The Raiders didn’t even draft a linebacker. The only new guys really are veteran free agent pickup Brandon Marshall and undrafted rookie Te’Von Coney. So, being on the same page shouldn’t be an issue. Burfict knows Guenther’s scheme well and he isn’t speaking a language no one understands. It also means he is seen as a leader on this defense.“You got to be a leader out there,” said Burfict. “You got to lead by example, you have to make sure you are doing your job so they can have confidence in you when the game time comes, and putting guys in the right position. Like if I have to make a line stunt for the defensive lineman, putting them in the right position as well because obviously they have their hand in the dirt. Like I said, just being accountable, on time to everything and make sure you’re doing every rep in the weight room.”this defense in practice and in the weight room. But what of the field of play? What about that whole ‘dirty player’ thing? It’s Burfict’s one major criticism because it costs his team when he gets penalized on the field and especially when he gets suspended for his actions. No one is questioning why Burfict was added from a schematics perspectives. He was a no-brainer in that regard. They need him to be a complete leader. And to do that, he must get a handle on his personal fouls and his temper. He is a ‘quarterback,’ so he is held to a higher standard. If he can live up to that standard, the Raiders could be in good hands at the linebacker position.Follow @LeviDamien
I’m Jason McIntyre Womens Jerome Bettis Jersey , and I’m back picking every game on the Sunday slate, plus the Monday Night Football game. And folks, I’m hot! And I’m hearing from you on social media. Thank you! Five straight winning weeks — no losing weeks yet! — so let’s keep the ball rolling with Week 6.I’ve always been a fan of U2’s music, and if forced to pick a favorite song, “The Sweetest Thing” probably takes the top prize. “Mysterious Ways” is also up there, but “Sunday Bloody Sunday” gets consideration as well. And I couldn’t help but think of that song when I looked at NFL lines for this weekend: Eight of the 12 games Sunday (and even the MNF game between the Lions and Packers) will have a spread of 4 or less.I feel irrationally good about this card —I wanted no part of last weekend’s games but managed a 3-2 — but then I realized that the games I’m most confident about means I’m going againstsmileatrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers and the undefeated 49ers. So 3 of the 5 best QBs, and the last team unbeaten team. Let’s just hope it’s not a bloody Sunday for my confidence picks, ranked from most to least confident. Let’s go!Article continues below ...13. Houston Texans +4.5 at Kansas City ChiefsI’m all over Deshaun Watson here — who, by the way, is 8-2-1 against the spread as an underdog with the Texans. Listen, he is a money player. I really like him against a beaten up Chiefs defense. They’re signing guys off the street to play on the defensive line. No Chris Jones for the Chiefs is big. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs haven’t covered in three straight games. Give me the Texans getting 4.5 points on the road.12. Cleveland Browns +1.5 vs. Seattle SeahawksThis line has moved a lot; last week on the lookahead line, Seattle was getting two. Earlier this week Jerome Bettis Jersey , they were favored by 2.5, and now, the number is down slightly back toward Cleveland. The public is largely selling the Browns after that embarrassing loss on Monday Night Football to the 49ers. I don’t care. I don’t care that Baker Mayfield leads the NFL in interceptions, with 8, either. I think this Seattle team is still overrated. Three of their four wins came by a total of four points. I like the Browns to get right at home, getting 1.5 points.11. Detroit Lions +4 at Green Bay PackersThe Monday Night Football matchup everybody’s waiting for (well, maybe not…). I love the Lions here, maybe even to win outright. Matt Stafford off a bye is 7-3 against the spread, and the Packers just aren’t incredible at night. Their last five home games at night? 0-5 against the spread. I think the Lions can go into Lambeau, run the football and pass on a bit of an overrated defense, so give me Detroit getting four points on Monday night.10. Los Angeles Rams -3 vs. San Francisco 49ersI really love the Rams here; in fact, 3 seems a little short. Why’s that? Well, the 49ers are overvalued, folks. I know they’re unbeaten James Conner Jersey , and the stats love them, but they’ve played a cupcake schedule. This is a team that has not beaten a team with a winning record! The 49ers’ combined opponents’ record: 5-15. And the key number: Sean McVay’s Rams, with extra rest — they played last Thursday, with the 49ers on a short week after playing last Monday — are 7-1 against the spread. Give me the Rams favored by three at home.9. Minnesota Vikings -3 vs. Philadelphia EaglesI’ve seen the numbers. I know Kirk Cousins is 5-27 straight up in his past 32 games against teams with a winning record. But I don’t care. I’m taking the Vikings at home, because I think the Eagles are still overrated, and Minnesota has Dalvin Cook. I’m expecting a huge game for him, even against the 4th-ranked rush defense in the NFL, according to Football Outsiders. Give me the Vikings as 3-point favorites at home.8. Carolina Panthers -1.5 vs. Tampa Bay BuccaneersI really like Carolina in this spot. Big injury problems for the Bucs; the entire right side of their offensive line, and Carolina is second in the NFL in sacks. That’s a big advantage for the Panthers. I also do believe that this is a great revenge spot. Remember, Carolina was bottled up in Week 2, with Christian McCaffrey tallying just 37 yards rushing. I like a revenge angle for Carolina. They’ll go to London and beat Jameis Winston and the Bucs. Give me Carolina favored by 1.5.7. Tennessee Titans +2 at Denver BroncosI think I’ve solved the Tennessee Titans: they’re terrible as favorites (0-3), and they’re great as underdogs (2-0). They’re underdogs here, so I’ll take them. Give me the 2 points and Marcus Mariota on the road in Denver.6. Miami Dolphins +4 vs. Washington RedskinsTo a battle of the winless teams! Washington just fired their coach; it’s a disaster in D.C. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I like the Dolphins https://www.thesteelerslockerroom.com/authentic-terrell-edmunds-jersey , who are a crazy 4-0 against the spread after a bye in their past four seasons. I’ll take Miami at home getting 4 points.5. Los Angeles Chargers -6.5 vs. Pittsburgh SteelersA lot of this line has to do with Pittsburgh being down to their third-string quarterback after Mason Rudolph was knocked out last week. And given that, I’ve got to take the Chargers here. I don’t have a ton of faith in them right now; they can’t run the football, and they’re really beat up. But I just can’t side with a third-string QB. Fade Devlin Hodges and the Steelers.4. Arizona Cardinals +2.5 vs. Atlanta FalconsSurprise, surprise, but I’ve got to back Kyler Murray here after the Cardinals came through for me last week on the road in Cincinnati — and I will not back the Atlanta Falcons again for a while. They just gave up 53 points and over 500 yards of offense to Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans. I’ll take the Cardinals getting 2.5 at home.3. Baltimore Ravens -11 vs. Cincinnati BengalsI’ve got Baltimore favored by 11 against the Bengals, and I’m going to take them reluctantly. I know Lamar Jackson is struggling, with five interceptions in the past two weeks, but what a better spot to get right than against a Bengals team that is winless and terrible. Give me the Ravens favored by 11.2. New York Jets +7 vs. Dallas CowboysThe Cowboys have lost two straight and haven’t covered in either game, and now they have to face Sam Darnold, who’s back from mono. I like the Jets here getting a touchdown at home. In fact, the reinvigorated New York Jets could win this game outright. Give me the Jets getting seven against Dallas.1. New Orleans Saints +2.5 at Jacksonville JaguarsThe New Orleans Saints are 14-0 against the spread in their last 14 October games, just an incredible stat — and I’m expecting them to make it 15-0. This one to me boils down to the QB play. Give me Teddy Bridgewater over Gardner Minshew and the Saints getting 2.5 in Jacksonville. PITTSBURGH (AP) — Ben Roethlisberger’s first pass went for a touchdown. His last did the same. And in between the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback and his red-hot team put together systematic 52-21 dismantling of Carolina on Thursday night that left little doubt about their depth and their talent regardless of whether Le’Veon Bell ever shows up for work or not.Ten different Steelers touched the ball on offense. Six of them scored. None of them were named Bell. While the three-time Pro Bowl running back tweeted his thoughts from home while waiting — and waiting — to sign his one-year franchise tender, Pittsburgh ripped off its fifth straight victory with stunning ease.“Really big performance against a really good team on a short week so there is a lot to be proud of,” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said. “But we are probably not that good.”Article continues below ...Maybe not Womens Terrell Edmunds Jersey , but Pittsburgh (6-2-1) looked every bit the part of legitimate contender in the AFC, perhaps for the first time this season.Roethlisberger completed 22 of 25 passes for 328 yards and five touchdowns while posting a perfect quarterback rating of 158.3. James Conner, who has filled in capably during Bell’s self-imposed sabbatical, ran for 65 yards and a score before being evaluated for a concussion late.Antonio Brown added eight receptions for 96 yards — including a 53-yard touchdown in the second quarter — to cap an eventful day that began with the star wide receiver being cited for reckless driving after police clocked Brown’s Porsche driving over 100 mph down a busy highway in the northern city suburbs.“This is what we expected,” Roethlisberger said. “We knew we were going to have to put up a lot of points. We did that. The defense, they were playing like their hair was on fire.”Bell has until next Tuesday to sign a contract if he wants to play this season. His teammates have long since tired of talking about Bell’s status and at this point.“I’m not going to comment on someone who’s not in the locker room right now,” Roethlisberger said. And why bother? For three hours on Thursday night Pittsburgh looked every bit as potent without Bell as it did with him. If he returns, they insist they’ll welcome him with open arms. If he doesn’t, they are intent on keeping the train rolling. The Panthers (6-3) saw their three-game winning streak come to an abrupt halt in a city where they’ve never won. Carolina fell to 0-4 all-time in Pittsburgh and was never really in it after the Steelers scored 21 points in the game’s first 11 minutes.Cam Newton completed 23 of 29 for 193 yards and a pair of flips to Christian McCaffrey that the second-year running back turned into scores, but Newton’s showdown with Roethlisberger never materialized. The Steelers sacked Newton five times and rarely let him get comfortable. McCaffrey finished with 138 yards total offense (77 yards rushing, 61 yards receiving) and accounted for all three Panther touchdowns but it wasn’t nearly enough.“We had a lot of our noses bleeding early on,” Newton said. “We’ve got to stop it and keep things going in our favor. We just got outplayed today.”Newton didn’t help matters when he threw off his back foot out of the Carolina end zone while trying to avoid getting sacked in the first quarter. Pittsburgh linebacker Vince Williams raced under the floater and returned it 17 yards for a touchdown to give the Steelers a 14-7 lead they never came close to relinquishing.Roethlisberger’s rainbow to Brown put Pittsburgh up 31-14 at the half and when Roethlisberger found Vance McDonald in the back on the end zone on the Steelers’ first drive of the second half, the competitive portion of the evening was over. Pittsburgh’s 52 points matched the most ever surrendered by the Panthers in franchise history. Carolina allowed the same total in a 52-9 loss to Oakland on Dec. 24, 2000.“They did some good things against us Womens James Conner Jersey ,” Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said. “We made too many mistakes early on to give ourselves an opportunity to win a football game.”REID TARGETS ROETHLISBERGERCarolina safety Eric Reid was ejected in the third quarter after being called for targeting when he dived at Roethlisberger’s head as the Pittsburgh quarterback was sliding at the end of an 18-yard scramble.Several Steelers, most of them offensive linemen, took exception with the hit and a brief scrum ensued. Pittsburgh center Maurkice Pouncey said Roethlisberger offered to pay any fines the linemen may accrue for sticking up for him.Reed, signed by Carolina in September, walked over to Roethlisberger and apologized before being escorted to the locker room.“I understand the NFL is trying to protect quarterbacks but when they’re running the ball they’re running backs,” Reid said. “I’m not thinking that ‘It’s Ben, don’t tackle him.’ ”PAYING TRIBUTERoethlisberger and Newton both wore cleats during the pregame that paid tribute to the 11 members of the Tree of Life synagogue that were killed in a mass shooting last month. Roethlisberger’s cleats featured the names of all 11 victims while Newton’s cleats read “Hatred Can’t Weaken a City of Steel.”UP NEXTPanthers: Travel to Detroit on Nov. 18 to take on the Lions. Carolina is 6-2 all-time against Detroit.Steelers: Visit Jacksonville on Nov. 18. The Jaguars beat Pittsburgh twice on the road last season, including a 45-42 upset in the divisional round of the playoffs.

Each week, we send 32 polls to 100+ plugged in fans from each team. Redskins fans Dwayne Haskins Redskins Jersey , sign up HERE to join FanPulse. How confident are you in the direction of the team? Last week: 76 percent confidenceThis can’t be surprising to anyone...leaguewide, really. By many metrics we have seen this week, the Redskins played one of the most solid games—if not THE most solid game—of football seen in week one. I know I was feeling pretty confident last week already, and that performance against Arizona sent me a notch higher. I am extremely impressed with the 0% of fans that are “not confident.” We are a decisive bunch! Will the Redskins win or lose in Week 2?Odds: Redskins are 6-point favoritesHogs Haven FanPulse: Redskins by 9Stampede Blue FanPulse: Colts by 2Ummmmmmm...my math says that is an 11-point spread between fanbases. Hahaha...Vegas would love us. The Colts fans are a solid eight points more optimistic than the oddsmakers, while Redskins fans are just feeling about a field goal better than sportsbooks. Opponents matter in this discussion. The Bengals are now 2-0, having toppled both Indianapolis and Baltimore (last night). The Redskins beat down a Cardinals team that not many people have a lot of faith in (I wonder what their fan confidence number is this week). I eagerly await the week where these values converge.offense? Tight end? I mean, I get that the elite tight ends take over games, but 5% of you voted tight end over...any of the other choices? I went left tackle here, while 40% split your vote between running back and wide receiver. It is certainly the case in the league today where a running back or wide receiver on a given team might be more valuable to that team than its left tackle, but that team is not the Redskins. It appears this result is leaguewide, so I am confident that Redskins fans were pretty unanimous on this one.
The Patriots used a second-round draft pick on cornerback Duke Dawson last season Womens John Elway Jersey , but he suffered a hamstring injury and never got on the field. And now he’s leaving New England without having ever played a game.Dawson was traded to the Broncos, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports. The Patriots are getting the Broncos’ sixth-round draft pick while the Broncos are getting Dawson plus the Patriots’ seventh-round draft pick. The 23-year-old Dawson didn’t appear to have done enough to earn a 53-man roster spot in New England, so the Patriots were surely glad to get anything for him in a trade. The Broncos likely figured a player who went in the second round last year wouldn’t make it to them on waivers. When Bill Belichick decides to move on from a player, he doesn’t wait. Most teams wouldn’t want to get rid of a second-round pick after one year, but the Patriots were ready to move on. Aloha. The Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams meet Saturday night in Honolulu, a place that used to be a regular NFL stop for the Pro Bowl.Instead, Hawaiians will see lots of backups for both teams, who faced off in a playoff game in January won by LA on its way to the Super Bowl.“Hawaii is a magical place,” coach Jason Garrett said. “There is a great football tradition there, a lot of great players have come from there. One of our great players years ago, Mark Tuinei, is from Hawaii, and so many others. But once you get around the logistical part it’s going to be fun to go over there and play a football game and hopefully grow as a team in a great environment.”The first exhibition game in Hawaii since 1976 also figures to be Cowboys tight end Jason Witten’s return after a year in retirement as a broadcaster. The 11-time Pro Bowler is on the verge of setting a club record with a 16th season. The 37-year-old Witten already holds the Dallas records for catches and yards receiving and could threaten the mark for touchdowns receiving. With two-time rushing champion Ezekiel Elliott about to miss his second preseason game in a holdout, rookie Tony Pollard should get a slightly longer look than he did in the opener at San Francisco. Playing just the first series against the 49ers, Pollard had four carries for 16 yards on a drive to a field goal. Alfred Morris, the primary replacement during Elliott’s six-game suspension two years ago, could see his first action of the preseason after signing during training camp. Many of the Rams’ top players are not even making the trip to Hawaii. Coach Sean McVay intends to stick to his strategy of sitting out his key starters for the entire preseason. After spending last week in Northern California ahead of a game in Oakland, the Rams are already a bit tired of life on the road again, so they’re only spending about 48 hours total in Hawaii.Lions at TexansWhile Houston coach Bill O’Brien doesn’t seem ready to play many starters, one of them who would like to get in Saturday’s game, or at least one of the next three preseason contests. Receiver Will Fuller, a first-round pick in 2016, sustained a season-ending knee injury last October.“I think I need to play in a preseason game because I haven’t played a football game in a long time,” he said. “So just being out there and feeling game speed again Bradley Chubb Broncos Jersey , getting hit again, I haven’t gotten tackled yet, is important.”For the second straight week, the Lions will play a team after having joint practices with the opponent. Last week, New England was at the Lions’ facility for practices and faced them in their preseason opener.“Competing against the Patriots, competing against Houston, you really get three good sets of evaluation with different types of players,” Detroit coach Matt Patricia said. “J.J. Watt is obviously a phenomenal player, as is everybody that’s down there, so I think that it is a great opportunity.”Of course, Watt and those others “down there” likely won’t play.Browns at ColtsAfter two days of physical workouts and minor skirmishes, Cleveland and Indianapolis get together one more time.Indy needs to see more productivity out of its offense. In last week’s loss to Buffalo, the Colts managed only two first downs on their first seven possessions. Those problems reappeared during the joint practices and included slow starts by the offensive line on both days. Coach Frank Reich wants to see that corrected this weekend even as Andrew Luck continues sitting out to recover from calf and lower left leg injuries. The Browns are expected to keep the bubble wrap on star receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who didn’t play in the first exhibition and is dealing with a hip injury the team claims is minor.Beckham’s absence has given Rashard Higgins more reps and the receiver’s development has been one of the team’s most pleasant surprises this summer.Quarterback Baker Mayfield is expected to get a few more snaps with the starting offense.Patriots at TitansThe Patriots have wideout woes.Julian Edelman is still recovering from a thumb injury, and they also practiced without N’Keal Harry for a second straight day this week. Phillip Dorsett also watched with a wrap over his left thumb and hand after not being able to finish Wednesday’s practice. And Maurice Harris didn’t finish that practice and wasn’t seen Thursday. Not that it mattered to Tom Brady, who simply completed most of his passes to receivers such as undrafted rookie Gunner Olszewski of Bemidji State. And the standout thus far in camp has been undrafted WR Jakobi Meyers.Three-time Pro Bowl tight end Delanie Walker is hoping to play for Tennessee after watching the Titans’ preseason-opening win in Philadelphia. He sat out three straight practices before working against the Patriots on Thursday. The Titans also might get back rookie wide receiver A.J. Brown, who sat out for two weeks of training camp after hurting his left hamstring on the opening day of camp.Chiefs at SteelersThe Steelers will begin the painful process of moving on following the death of wide receivers coach Darryl Drake.Drake’s passing left the Steelers in mourning and the young group of receivers the 62-year-old led missing more than just a coach.“It’s hard to get back to the game you love because he’s not out there telling you what to do, he’s not out there yelling,” Steelers receiver Ryan Switzer said. “So it’s hard. But it’s part of our profession, and it’s something we have to do. And something that coach Drake would want us to do.”First-round pick Devin Bush will get a chance to show his eye-opening debut — when the inside linebacker made 10 tackles against Tampa Bay — was a taste of things to come. The Chiefs head to Pittsburgh with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the rest of their starters expected to play most of the first half. That includes a number of guys who have missed practice this week with an illness, such as wide receiver Sammy Watkins and defensive end Frank Clark.Newly signed cornerback Morris Claiborne could also get on the field for the first time with Kansas City, even though he will be suspended the first four games of the regular season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.Saints at Chargers, SundayThe Saints’ first-team defense struggled in its preseason opener while healthy Pro Bowl edge rusher Cameron Jordan watched from the sideline.“We’ve got some things we have to fix,” Jordan said. “I’m always going to put it on the front D-line when we don’t generate enough pass rush. I’d say it’s concerning Von Miller Jersey White , but at the same time, that’s why you have a preseason game to tune everything up.”While Jordan could see his first preseason action, more attention is on how much progress fellow end and 2018 first-round draft choice Marcus Davenport is making. He struggled to create pressure on Vikings QBs last week in a 34-25 loss.“He’s got a lot of things he wants to do, mentally,” Jordan said of Davenport. “So, I try to tell him sometimes it’s not about thinking so much. It’s about just going out there and physically performing.”Philip Rivers will be held out for the second straight game as Chargers coach Anthony Lynn continues to get the backups and young players more snaps. Rivers said he would be fine with not playing in a preseason game, which is a pretty stunning admission from him; he likes getting in as much work as possible.Tyrod Taylor will get the start followed by Cardale Jones and rookie Easton Stick.Adrian Phillips will get a lot of snaps at free safety now that Derwin James (foot) is injured.Seahawks at Vikings, SundayAfter playing the starters one series in their opening win at New Orleans, the Vikings will probably give the first-team offense a longer look as quarterback Kirk Cousins continues to settle in to the revamped scheme under coordinator Kevin Stefanski and adviser Gary Kubiak. Running back Dalvin Cook, entering his third year after two injury-shortened seasons, was held out against the Saints as a precaution. Rookie Alexander Mattison is the leading candidate to be the No. 2 running back and will get plenty of action against the Seahawks. The most intriguing player in purple will undoubtedly be specialist Kaare Vedvik, the recent acquisition from Baltimore who is being evaluated equally as both a kicker and a punter. Though it’s unlikely Vedvik, a native of Norway in his second year in the league out of Marshall, would be given both jobs for the regular season, he’ll get a chance to kick and punt in the remaining exhibition games.Russell Wilson likely will see the field for the first time and will give the first true look at his connection with rookie wide receiver DK Metcalf that has shown promise during training camp. Running backs Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny — leaders of the top running attack in the NFL last season — are also likely to get some carries.Defensively the focus will be on Seattle’s pass rush that remains the biggest question heading into the season.49ers at Broncos, Monday nightSan Francisco quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to get his first game action since going down with a season-ending knee injury last September. Garoppolo sat out the first exhibition game, but is expected to play at least a series at Denver. The Niners are counting on big things this season from Garoppolo, who has made only 10 starts in five NFL seasons.Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders is expected to make his first start since tearing his left Achilles tendon in practice last December. Sanders revealed recently that in addition to that injury, he had “tightrope” surgery on his right ankle (which is being used in athletes now to speed the recovery from high ankle sprains). O-line together in a game. LT Garett Bolles, LG Dalton Risner and C Connor McGovern have all played, but health concerns have limited RG Ronald Leary and RT Ja’Wuan James. The Broncos need this group to show marked improvement and keep Joe Flacco upright for them to have any chance of returning to respectability in 2019.
Schadenfreude sells.HBO has announced the viewership for the third episode of this year’s https://www.raiderslockerroom.com/authentic-derek-carr-jersey , and one line from the press release resonates most loudly: The ratings for Tuesday night’s show in Pittsburgh outpaced the national average by more than three times. This means that Steelers fans enjoy watching the train wreck that former Steelers receiver Antonio Brown‘s time in Oakland at times seems to be on the verge of becoming. The nationwide viewership for the third episode “was almost identical” to last year’s third episode featuring the Browns, with 776,000 premiere-night viewers. That still marks a 12.5-percent decline from last week’s audience of 887,000.These are premiere-night numbers only. Viewership of the first episode, which debuted at 879,000, has grown in the last two weeks to 3.7 million.Still, the sharp drop suggests that interest has waned through three episodes, even though last night’s edition became the first one in which the Antonio Brown situation received more than cursory, check-the-box treatment. We had belief in each other.”That's the way it has been ever since Tannehill replaced Marcus Mariota as starter after Week 6. The Titans (8-5) have won six of seven games since then to move into a tie with Houston for first place in the AFC South with two games in the final three weeks against the Texans.Tennessee scored touchdowns on five of the next seven possessions after the interception to run away from the Raiders (6-7) and make sure there was no slip-up before hosting Houston next week. The Titans are second in the NFL in scoring with Tannehill at quarterback at 31.4 points per game.“I just told the team we don't work as long as we work in practice and prepare just to win eight games,” coach Mike Vrable said. “We don't. That's the reality of this business.”Tennessee broke open a tight game with a three-touchdown barrage in a span of just over seven minutes of the second half that all but ended the playoff hopes for the Raiders in their final season in Oakland.Henry, who rushed for 103 yards, broke a 21-all tie with a 10-yard TD run midway through the third quarter to cap an 89-yard drive. The Raiders then went three-and-out on their next drive and Tannehill easily drove Tennessee 84 yards for a 35-21 lead on a 17-yard pass to Jonnu Smith.“When we’re going three-and-out and not picking up first downs and going down and scoring points, it’s tough,” guard Richie Incognito said. “The offense put the defense and the rest of the team in a tough position to start that second half, and they just exploded on us.”The boo birds then came out in the second-to-last game at the Coliseum when Darren Waller fumbled a catch after a hit by Tye Hill and Jayon Brown returned it 46 yards.Tennessee outscored Oakland 21-0 in the season half and has a league-best plus-59 point differential in the second half over the past five weeks.“We just have to keep it rolling. The offense is firing on all cylinders right now Womens Bo Jackson Jersey ,” tackle Jack Conklin said. “That's the goal for us every week, come in and wear down a team.”What had been a promising season for the Raiders with a three-game win streak in November that improved them to 6-4 has gone off the rails the past three weeks. They lost by 31 points in successive road games against the Jets and Chiefs and then fell apart in the second half against Tennessee. This marked just the second time in franchise history that Oakland dropped three in a row by at least 21 points, having also done it in 2012.“We did put ourselves in position to make a run and we didn’t do it,” quarterbac Derek Carr said. “It’s just as simple as that.”Tannehill threw two TD passes in the first half to rookie A.J. Brown, including a 91-yarder. Brown finished with five catches for 153 yards.Tennessee finished with 552 yards, their second most since the merger in 1970. More than once this week Mike Tomlin was asked if he felt any responsibility for not making things work with Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown.Steelers cornerback Joe Haden came to his coach’s defense Thursday Jerome Bettis Jersey , vouching for Tomlin’s leadership.“He has complete control of the team,” Haden told Stacey Dales of NFL Network. “You have two totally different situations with Le’Veon and with Antonio. It is what is. It’s a business. You can’t blame coach T for that.“He’s one of the best coaches I’ve ever played for. You can only ask for honesty. He keeps it real with you. He lets you know exactly where you stand. He lets you know exactly how he feels about you, if you’re productive, if you’re not. He treats everyone fairly, but I’m going to say not everybody gets treated the same.” Haden spent seven seasons in Cleveland, playing for five head coaches. When the Steelers reconvene for their offseason program James Conner Jersey , the locker room won’t be the same as when Haden arrived in 2017.Bell left for more money from the Jets after sitting out last season in a contract dispute, refusing to sign the franchise tag. The Steelers traded Brown to Oakland after drama to end last season.“With Antonio, that was just a whole different situation [than Bell],” Haden said. “This is a crazy business, and it’s definitely relationships and people feel certain types of ways. So that went down the way it did.“I wanted AB to be on our team as much as possible. I did everything I possibly could, as far as talking to him and seeing what I could do. Without the benefit of a dedicated quarterbacks coach like many of his peers around the NFL enjoy, Rudolph has been forced to take it upon himself to find help with his game from outside the organization. Working under the tutelage of Tom House, a former major-league pitcher known as “The Throwing Doctor,” the second-year player is reportedly looking even stronger at OTAs this offseason. And when speaking to the media after practice on Thursday, Rudolph was clearly much happier with the improvements he has made since his rookie season. As reported by Josh Rowntree of 93.7 The Fan. There was a report this week that the relationship is fractured and that Williams does not intend to play for them again Dwayne Haskins Jersey , although the team denied that things have deteriorated to that point. They’ve reached a point where the team felt the need to sign Penn, who called Williams a good friend and said they had a long talk before Penn signed this week. Penn kept the details private, but said he wants to play left tackle and he wants to be a starter so one could do some dot connecting about what Williams might have told him about his plans for the immediate future.Penn moved to right tackle after the Raiders drafted Kolton Miller last year, but only played four games before landing on injured reserve. He was a starting left tackle in Oakland and Tampa before that move. LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Even after blaming pressure and contact to his throwing arm for a costly interception in the first half, Cam Newton had the game on his shoulders in the final minute.Newton led the Carolina Panthers downfield and into the red zone before three consecutive incompletions ended their hopes in a 23-17 loss to the Washington Redskins on Sunday. It was a sour ending to an inconsistent day for Newton, who had two touchdown passes but also a costly interception , an almost fumble Wes Martin Jersey , and enough off-target passes to cost Carolina (3-2).“You have games and days like that,” said Newton, who was 27 of 40 for 275 yards passing. “My days of sobbing are over with. I’m excited for what the future holds. I hope we get to see this team again.”A chance to see the Redskins (3-2) again wouldn’t come until the playoffs, and it’s on Newton to get the Panthers there. He showed flashes of that potential at Washington, connecting on five passes, including a TD to Devin Funchess and executing a near-flawless scoring drive early in the fourth quarter. But Newton also needed a heads-up catch from left guard Greg Van Roten to avoid a potential fumble, and then gifted former teammate Josh Norman his first interception since 2016 when he lofted up a pass early in the second quarter.“ and it starts with me Womens Bryce Love Jersey ,” Newton said. “Felt like we got everything and I just got pushed in the pocket and still tried to force it.”Despite up-and-down play, Newton had second-and-5 from the Washington 16-yard line with 47 seconds left and the chance to rally the Panthers to tie the biggest comeback in franchise history. He threw incomplete in the end zone to Christian McCaffrey and Funchess, and then couldn’t find Jarius Wright on a shorter route on fourth down.“We had some opportunities,” coach Ron Rivera said. “You make your breaks, and we didn’t get any breaks on those.”Newton was Carolina’s leading rusher with 43 yards on nine carries, including a 15-yard scamper untouched up the middle. He had some room to run on the final drive but opted to pass each time.“It’s hard to run the football when you’re only getting — we just call the plays, we try to execute the plays the coaches call,” Newton said. “I feel extremely confident in (offensive coordinator Norv Turner) and the play selection that he has had up until this point https://www.theredskinslockerroom.com/authentic-terry-mclaurin-jersey , and don’t plan on it changing.”NOTES: Rookie D.J. Moore fumbled on a punt return, setting up the Redskins’ first touchdown, and later after making one of his four catches. Asked about trying to make plays and hold on to the ball, the former Maryland receiver said: “It’s a real fine line. You got to do all of that at once and I didn’t do a good job of that.” … TE Greg Olsen had four catches for 48 yards in his return after missing three games with a broken right foot.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — John Elway is giving his clearest indication yet that he’s going to pursue Kirk Cousins Courtland Sutton Jersey , the prize of this year’s free-agent quarterbacks.“We’re going to explore all options in free agency and see where that goes,” Elway said Wednesday at the NFL combine. “Obviously we’ve got the fifth pick in the draft, too. That will all play into it. We’ll continue to look at all of the options out there when it comes to quarterback.”The Denver Broncos general manager stressed that he’ll look at “anybody that won’t be under contract.”With the Washington Redskins moving on to Alex Smith, whom they’ve agreed to acquire from Kansas City, that group of free agents would include Cousins, who figures to command more than the record $27.5 million that Jimmy Garoppolo will receive in his new deal with the San Francisco 49ers.Elway said he’s confident the team could absorb a big free-agent contract under the salary cap, revealed the Broncos are considering moving Ronald Leary back to left guard and indicated highly paid receivers Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders aren’t going anywhere.“Yes, the plan is to have them back,” Elway said. That means, Elway will pick up Thomas’ $4 million bonus in March, which will keep the last two years of the wide receiver’s contract in place.“That is the plan, yes.”The returns of tight end Jake Butt and slot receiver Carlos Henderson, who spent their rookie years on IR last season, could help bolster the Broncos’ offense, as well.Elway has been stung by the draft selections of Brock Osweiler and Paxton Lynch, but he hit the jackpot six years ago when he landed Peyton Manning. The Broncos have missed the playoffs each of the two seasons after Manning retired, including a 5-11 season last year when they cycled through quarterbacks Trevor Siemian, Osweiler and Lynch twice .Elway said he’s eager to see the promising class of college quarterbacks this week that features Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Lamar Jackson and Mason Rudolph.“There is a possibility of some really good quarterbacks coming out of this draft,” Elway said.Elway got burned two years ago when he moved up to take Lynch with the 26th overall pick only to watch him founder on the sideline most of the past two seasons.“Believe me, I’m not done swinging and missing,” Elway said with a laugh. “Misses don’t bother me. We just have to figure out a way to get it right. That is what we are working on.”Even with so much uncertainty at quarterback, Elway has been in a good mood this week.“If there’s any year I wanted to play it was last year, to come back and play as a player and try to get things turned around,” Elway said. “Sitting in my chair was a long, long year.”Elway is also a member of the league’s competition committee which has been discussing simplifying the catch rule that’s become so cumbersome in recent seasons and which commissioner Roger Goodell has put atop his offseason fix-it list.Elway said the competition committee is making progress in that regard.“I think it’ll be much simpler and I think everyone will understand what a catch is and what it isn’t,” Elway said. “I think that we’re in the process of everything that we covered so far Royce Freeman Jersey White , it’s going to be much better.”So, “survive the ground” will soon be out of the NFL’s lexicon.“Yeah, going to the ground, that’ll be changed,” Elway said.Goodell wanted the league to go back and start from scratch after tweaks to the rule only made it more troublesome.“Or let’s go back to what the old definition of what a catch was, right? Two feet down, control and move and then you’ve got a catch,” Elway said. “That’s what it’s going to be more like.”—— The Denver Broncos have desperately been searching for their next franchise quarterback since Peyton Manning rode off into the sunset following Super Bowl 50. Broncos General Manager John Elway has drafted quarterbacks in both the high and low rounds, in addition to importing multiple veteran quarterbacks. While all quarterbacks have been given an opportunity to fill the void, they’ve all missed the mark. Grinning ear to ear, and having some bounce in his step, it was evident that Lock has been preparing for his NFL debut his whole life. Sitting on the bench this year was a foreign role for Lock, who started his entire high school and collegiate career in the SEC at Missouri. After being activated from IR (thumb injury), Lock completed 18 passes on 28 attempts for 134 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception while also avoiding being sacked. In the first quarter, Lock utilized star wide receiver Courtland Sutton, who reeled in two touchdowns from the 2019 second-round draft pick (42nd overall). On Monday, Courtland Sutton was quick to praise his new quarterback.“He came in and he played with some confidence and some swag, It was awesome to see him put together what he put together,” he said. “He could be the future. He has the potential to be that guy for a long time here.”While the second half of the game against the Los Angeles Chargers was offensively conservative, Lock moved the ball downfield and drew (no pun intended) a pass interference call that set up a game-winning field goal from Brandon McManus.Following the Broncos fourth victory (4-8 overall record) and season sweep of the Chargers, Broncos Country cant help but feel the energy and observe the potential that Drew Lock brings to this team. that he must make to clean up his game. Lock needs to consistently demonstrate pre-snap defensive reads and improve footwork while dropping back from under center. He must also learn to limit turnovers as he threw a fourth quarter interception in a tied game. Lock is expected to remain the Broncos starting quarterback for the final four games of the season against the Texans, Chiefs, Lions and Raiders.John Elway and Broncos Country are eagerly waiting to see if Drew Lock’s energy, skill set, and work ethic coincide with a franchise quarterback that is worth an organizational commitment.
After grabbing a key win against the Chargers on Thursday Night Football Antonio Brown Jersey White , the Raiders playoff chances went up by 16.1 percent, the third highest positive change behind the Vikings and Seahawks.Oakland now makes the playoffs in 48.8 percent of Football Outsiders’ 30,000 weekly season simulations and has an 18.3 percent chance of hosting a playoff game at the Coliseum. The Raiders have faced the third hardest schedule to this point by DVOA, and things will start easing up as they take on the struggling Bengals on Sunday afternoon.A steadily improving pass rush will have a major opportunity to build upon a great Thursday night outing, as they face the worst pass blocking offensive line, per ESPN’s Team Pass Block Win Rate. Cincinnati sits at a lowly 40 percent Win Rate, while Oakland’s quintet of beasts up front places second in the NFL at 65 percent. With the Bengals operating as the NFL’s lone winless outfit, Football Outsiders has them picking first overall in 58.5 percent of simulations. Meanwhile, the Raiders chances at getting a top 5 pick this year tumbled after the Bears knocked off a Matthew Stafford-less Lions squad. As it stands, the Raiders own first rounder falls in the top 5 in 0.1 percent of simulations, while the pick the Bears owe them is top 5 just 3.3 percent of the time.As seen below, the Bengals have been absolutely atrocious on both sides of the ball. However, they’ve laughably been No. 1 in the NFL in special teams DVOA this year, while the Raiders sit at No. 16.DVOA Breakdown:RaidersOverall DVOA: 6.2 percent above average, No. 12 overallTeam Offense: 17.2 percent above average, No. 5 overall(No. 4 overall in pass offense, No. 6 overall in Rush offense)Team Defense: 12.2 percent below average, No. 29 overall(No. 29 overall in pass defense, No. 16 overall in rush defense)BengalsOverall DVOA: 42.1 percent below average, No. 31 overallTeam Offense: 24.1 percent below average, No. 30 overall(No. 29 overall in pass offense, No. 31 overall in rush offense)Team Defense: 23.2 percent below average, No. 32 overall(No. 32 overall in pass defense, No. 29 overall in rush defense)DYAR Breakdownsmileespite having a solid outing last week, Derek Carr dropped from No. 4 to No. 5 in quarterback DYAR. He’s still ahead of many of his esteemed peers, like Deshaun Watson, Lamar Jackson and Tom Brady. After an subpar showing in the first start of his career, both Ryan Finley and his predecessor Andy Dalton have posted a negative DYAR. Dalton sits at No. 30 in the NFL, while Finley would slide in just above him if he had enough qualifying snaps. Last place in quarterback DYAR? Daniel Jones. So much for all the ‘Danny Dimes’ hype.Josh Jacobs held firm this week at No. 4 in rushing DYAR, sitting behind three of the league’s best in Christian McCaffrey, Ezekiel Elliott and Dalvin Cook. Of all 35 qualifying running backs, Cincinnati’s Joe Mixon ranks dead last in rushing DYAR.While no Raider wideouts previously had logged enough snaps to be considered for receiving DYAR, Tyrell Williams and Hunter Renfrow have both notched enough snaps to qualify now. Williams places at No. 18 in the league, while the rookie slot receiver follows at No. 36. The receiver position has looked like a major weakness for Oakland at times this year, but the metrics suggest that the cupboard isn’t nearly as barren as it seems. Especially not with Darren Waller holding at No. 2 among tight ends in receiving DYAR once again. ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — While outsiders keep speculating when the Oakland Raiders will cut ties with Derek Carr and search for a new franchise quarterback, Carr tunes out all the outside noise. He ignored all the pre-draft talk whether the Raiders would select his replacement and has paid so little attention to the talk about his long-term security that he has already bought a house in Las Vegas — where his new neighbor when the Raiders arrive in Sin City next year will be coach Jon Gruden.“We are next-door neighbors,” Carr said. “We will be Bo Jackson Jersey White , yes, but that’s for the future. That’ll be fun. Hopefully a lot of knocks on the door. Maybe we can car pool. That would be good for us.”Carr might be the only person so confident in his job status with the Raiders. After a promising start to his career that featured a 12-win season and MVP talk in 2016 when Oakland ended 13-year playoff drought, Carr’s performance has lagged the past two years, thanks in part to switching play callers and diminished talent around him.If he can’t succeed this season after the Raiders added the NFL’s most prolific receiver in Antonio Brown, a dangerous deep threat in Tyrell Williams, first-round running back Josh Jacobs and elite pass-blocking tackle Trent Brown, Carr might need to look for a real-estate agent. And for a new job as the Raiders can get out of his five-year, $125 million contract three years early with almost no penalty.“Let’s just get through this year first and then we’ll play that game again,” he said. “I’ll probably have some more fun with it, but I’m not going anywhere. This is my team and it will be for the next however long I want to play.”Carr is one of several QBs in a prove-it season, along with 2015 top two picks Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota, who are playing out their fifth-year options in Tampa Bay and Tennessee without long-term deals; Cincinnati’s Andy Dalton; and Jimmy Garoppolo in San Francisco. Most of those teams can get out of commitments to players they once had hoped would be franchise quarterbacks without major salary cap implications. Winston and Mariota are set to be unrestricted free agents if they don’t get new deals or franchise tags. Dalton will enter the final year of a $96 million, six-year contract in 2020 with no dead money on his deal. The 49ers can get out of Garoppolo’s with a cap charge of just $4.5 million.Matthew Stafford could be in a similar situation with the Lions, although making a change in Detroit would come with a hefty dead money charge of $26 million according to overthecap.com, probably giving him security.Garoppolo was viewed as the savior in San Francisco after winning his first five starts to end the 2017 season following a midseason trade from New England. That led to a $137.5 million, five-year contract in the offseason, but things soured from there. Garoppolo struggled in the first three games last season and then went down with a season-ending knee injury. He’s back healthy this summer, still trying to prove he’s worthy of that deal and durable enough to make it through an entire season after starting just 10 games and getting hurt twice in five seasons in the NFL.“It’s crazy what a year can do,” Garoppolo said. “I have so much motivation in myself and I push myself so much that that’s all I need. All the noise on the outside, you kind of just tune it out. … It’s always going to be there.”The questions about Winston, Mariota and Dalton have taken longer to form. Winston and Mariota came into the league as the top two picks in 2015 but haven’t lived up to that billing.Winston has thrown for a franchise-record 88 touchdowns in four seasons, but also has 58 interceptions in 56 career games. H hasn’t shown the consistency needed to thrive in the NFL. Last season, he was suspended for the first three games for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, then benched briefly for ineffectiveness after throwing eight interceptions in his first three starts. Now with a respected, offense-minded head coach in Bruce Arians at the helm, and a talented cast led by star receiver Mike Evans, Winston has no excuses.“I’ve just got to do my job,” he said. “The better I do my job, the better chance we give this team a chance to win.”Mariota also has had a difficult time, missing at least one game a season and going through three head coaches and five play callers in his brief career. He is coming off a season when he threw for a career-worst 11 touchdowns with eight interceptions. But with Derrick Henry at running back and an emerging star in Corey Davis at receiver, Mariota has the best offensive talent around him that he’s had in his career. It’s an opportunity to show he’s worthy of a mega-contract.“Other people’s opinions don’t matter to me,” Mariota said. “I just got to be the best I can be for this team.”Many thought the Bengals would move on from Dalton after a third straight year without making the playoffs. five seasons but lost in the wild-card round each time — including in 2015 when Dalton was hurt — and now have taken a step back.Dalton gets the chance to work with an offensive mind in head coach Zac Taylor.“Andy is a very fine quarterback,” owner Mike Brown said. “He got hurt last year. I don’t know why, but the public perception seems to be that he wasn’t a fine enough quarterback. If we put the right people around him, he’s proven he can make this thing go well. I think that’s where we are, and I think he’ll do well and we’ll do well.”
