White Tre’Davious White Jersey , defense, or special teams Sunday. They were beaten soundly by a vulnerable New England Patriots team in all three phases. With one game left in the season, the coaching staff has a lot of evaluating to do as they enter Week 17.Here are our five takeaways from the game:Bills were out-coachedThe Patriots kept attacking Buffalo’s inexperienced linebackers by keeping their heavy units on the field. They were able to run the ball down the Bills’ collective throats and influence the need for Lorenzo Alexander to cover Julian Edelman. On defense, the Patriots put Pro Bowler Stephon Gilmore on Robert Foster and then dared Josh Allen to pass the ball. He had opportunities but New England made the Bills make plays—and so many drops doomed the Bills.Bills rushing defense remains a concernAfter their second touchdown, the Patriots were averaging 8.4 yards per rush while Tom Brady was having a pedestrian day. New England had 179 yards rushing before halftime. With 20 minutes left in the game, New England already had passed the Indianapolis Colts for most rushing yards against the Bills in a game this season. With 273 yards on the ground, it was tied for the seventh-most allowed since 2000. Missed tackles, the defensive line not settling into their lanes, and sub-par linebacker play all led to the problem. In four games against New England, Sean McDermott’s defense has allowed more than 190 yards on the ground three times. They entered the game allowing only 105 yards per game but they have had some hiccups this year.Josh Allen didn’t play well*Bill Belichick* is pretty darn good at home against rookie quarterbacks. It was a story line going into this week, but it came true in spades. Belichick spied Allen with a cornerback and other defensive backs on multiple plays. They converted 9% of their third downs. Allen threw two picks and was 14-for-33 for just 148 yards. He had five rushes for 30 yards and was sacked a few times. Allen had several very good passes, for sure, and he was able to settle in more as the game wore on, but they couldn’t get anything going when it mattered.Convert some freaking turnoversThe Bills forced three turnovers in Patriots territory and were only able to convert three points. The opening drive of the third quarter got the Bills on the board Tre’Davious White Jersey 2019 , down 14-3, but the Bills turned it over on downs in the second quarter and Stephen Hauschka bounced off the crossbar from 43 yards out in the first quarter. Not exactly how you defeat the Patriots.Special teams (again)Holy cow. That onside kick was pathetic. The Patriots blocked an extra point (kind of but not really). It was abysmal and it’s not the first time we’ve called for coordinator Danny Crossman to be fired. Let’s do it again anyway: Danny Crossman should be fired.Send your questions to me for the Buffalo Rumblings Mailbag: 716-508-0405. It was a talk-able Bills game, for sure. ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Zay Jones can reflect on the past 18 months and see how much he’s matured as a player and a person.Looking back, the Bills‘ second-year receiver realizes how ill-prepared he was entering the NFL as a second-round draft pick in 2017. Jones had the wild idea then in believing his success at East Carolina, where he set NCAA records for career and single-season receptions, would immediately translate at the professional level.“You have to understand that things just don’t happen like that,” Jones said, snapping his fingers for emphasis.“Things take time,” he added. “For me as a man, just understanding this league, how it goes and finally letting the dust settle with everything, I’ve learned a lot.”It’s a hard-earned perspective gained from his season-long struggles as a rookie, followed by a frightening meltdown during which a bloodied and naked Jones was arrested — but not charged — after trashing a downtown Los Angeles apartment in February.Jones White Zay Jones Jerseys , who still has scars on his right knee from the outburst, wouldn’t change a thing if he could.“It hurts sometimes because there’s growth pains,” he said. “You don’t understand what the NFL requires until you’re in it. And hopefully, for some guys it’s not too late.”It wasn’t too late for Jones, who is beginning to show signs of emerging as a dependable receiver on a young and patchwork offense expected to have rookie Josh Allen back under center Sunday, when Buffalo (3-7) hosts Jacksonville (3-7).Jones entered the bye week coming off a career-best outing. He had eight catches for 93 yards and a touchdown in a 41-10 win over the New York Jets on Nov. 11, with Matt Barkley starting for Buffalo. Jones now leads Buffalo with 37 catches for 392 yards and two TDs receiving. He’s already passed last year’s totals in catches (27) and yards (316) while matching his scoring output.“I’m proud of myself, I wouldn’t lie to you,” Jones said. “It was nice to just sit back during the bye week and recognize the things that I’ve done, but also know there’s still a long ways ahead.”It’s a far better place than where Jones was a year ago, when he was being criticized for dropping too many passes and not being on the same page with quarterback Tyrod Taylor. The most memorable incompletion came in the final seconds of a 9-3 loss at Carolina in Week 2, when Jones failed to bring down a pass near the goal line. That’s not the type of production anyone, including Jones, was expecting from a player who finished his college career with 399 catches Zay Jones Jerseys 2019 , including 158 in his senior season. In Jones’ defense, he spent a portion of last season playing with a shoulder injury. It was also unfair to expect Jones to stand out amid a group of receivers mostly made up of rookies and journeymen.Jones was disappointed by his lack of production and stung by the criticism.“If people want to place the blame on me last year, sure I’ll take it,” he said. “But it’s helped me grow as a man. It’s helped me grow as a football player. I’ve matured.”How much Jones matured wasn’t immediately apparent in February, when security video showed him arguing with his brother before being arrested for vandalism. It didn’t help that Jones required surgery to repair a knee injury, which sidelined him through the second week of training camp in August.Jones won’t go into detail, except to say what happened in Los Angeles could have cost him his life.He will acknowledge having made mistakes.“I’m a professional in what I do. And I take that criticism,” Jones said. “Is a lot of it deserved? Maybe some.”Coach Sean McDermott is impressed by the maturity Jones showed in putting the past behind.“He persevered, and that’s a testament to Zay,” McDermott said. “He’s still a work in progress, like we all are. But to be able to step back and learn and grow from those moments on the field and then off the field in February says a lot about him as a person.”NOTES: DE Shaq Lawson did not practice a day after hurting his elbow. … DE Trent Murphy, who has missed three games with a knee injury, practiced on a limited basis. … LB Matt Milano has been cleared from the concussion protocol.
you should target this week As the season gets deeper — even though we’re only through three weeks — it’s tougher to find capable impact players on the waiver wire. But there’s still a few who could really make a difference for the rest of the season — and there’s always a chance for a surprise performance to pop up later in the season. So with that said Golden Tate Jerseys 2019 , here’s a few waiver wire targets as we head into Week 4.Calvin Ridley, WR, Atlanta FalconsRostered - Yahoo: 44% | ESPN: 40.8%Hopefully you got on the Ridley train before Week 3, but a lot of people didn’t He’s still available in more than half of fantasy leagues on both Yahoo and ESPN. The three touchdown game Ridley just had was great and while that’s not something he’s going to do weekly, there’s some staying power with the presence in the Falcons offense.Ridley is tied for second on the team in targets (15), but what he’s done with those is so much better. He has the edge on Sanu in receptions (11 to 10), yards (210 to 73), and average depth of target (14 to 6.4). Sanu appears to have a handle on the snap count advantage, but Ridley looks like he’s turning into the true No. 2 option in the passing game. As a receiver across from Julio Jones on a team that might be in some shootouts, Ridley is a must own if you’re in a league where he’s still available.Tyler Boyd, WR, Cincinnati BengalsRostered - Yahoo: 17% | ESPN: 23.7%The No. 2 option on the Bengals’ offense isn’t as sexy, but Tyler Boyd has been incredibly productive through three weeks. Boyd is second on the team in targets (21) and leads the team in receiving yards (249). Boyd isn’t exactly a deep threat, but he does lead the team in aDOT (12.0). Right now Boyd is WR16 by PPR scoring and he’s barely owned in fantasy. The Bengals offense has been clicking since Bill Lazor took over as offensive coordinator and the Bengals have a pretty favorable schedule of secondaries over the next couple weeks with the likes of Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, and Tampa Bay among the teams faced before Cincinnati’s bye.Geronimo Allison, WR, Green Bay PackersRostered - Yahoo: 34% | ESPN: 34.2%It’s rare that a player on so many waiver wire add columns after Week 1 is still available after Week 3, but that’s where we are with Geronimo Allison. Allison hasn’t had fewer than 64 receiving yards in Green Bay’s first three games and even when he only got a season-low four targets this past week, he turned it into 76 yards and a touchdown.Allison is only the Packers’ third receiver, but Green Bay is using 11 personnel (three wide receivers) on nearly 80 percent of their offensive snaps this season — Allison has been on the field for 75.2 percent of Green Bay’s offensive snaps. He’s the deep threat for an Aaron Rodgers offense, which is never a bad place to invest.Buck Allen, RB, Baltimore RavensRostered - Yahoo: 27% | ESPN: 39.3%Skip ahead if you’re someone who invested in Alex Collins this season (*raises hand*). For some reason, the Ravens are fascinated by giving the ball to Allen near the goal line this season. Only Carlos Hyde, Todd Gurley, and Adrian Peterson have more carries inside the 5-yard line White Jabrill Peppers Jerseys , which has resulted in two touchdowns.Having Allen on your roster is banking on the Ravens continuing to get near the end zone and use Allen in this role, but there’s nothing to suggest that role is going to disappear anytime soon, even if there’s still a better back on the roster.Mark Andrews, TE, Baltimore RavensRostered - Yahoo: 1% | ESPN: 1.1%If you need a streamer at tight end or are in a super deep league, Andrews might not be a bad place to look. The Ravens will play the Steelers this week, a team that has been killed by the tight end so far this season. Andrews’s 9.9 intended air yards is ninth among tight ends with at least eight targets. Andrews is also second on the team in yards per reception (13.4). He only played 38 percent of the snaps this past week when he caught two passes for 59 yards, but he’s clearly the pass catching tight end on the roster and his role could grow. Saquon Barkley needed one play to justify the hype. After banging and grinding for small gains much of the game, the No. 2 overall draft pick wowed New York Giants' fans in his NFL debut with a spectacular 68-yard, fourth-quarter touchdown run in a 20-15 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. The Penn State product finished with a game-high 106 yards rushing, caught two passes for 22 yards and showed there was a good reason why he was the most-hyped rookie to join the franchise since Lawrence Taylor started a Hall of Fame career in 1981."That's why we drafted that young man," Giants coach Pat Shurmur said after the Jaguars spoiled his coaching debut with New York.Defensive end Calais Campbell, one of six Pro Bowlers on a Jaguars defense that was ranked No. 2 overall last season, was impressed with Barkley after the first few plays of the game, a run for zero and another for minus-3."The first run and the first couple of times I tackled him, I said, this kid has something," Campbell said. "Obviously, you see it on tape, but we didn't get to watch a lot of tape on him. It's his college tape. Coming into the NFL against a team like ours, and making some of the plays he made, that kid's going to be special."Campbell said he traded jerseys with Barkley after the game."I was like, "OK, if he can stay healthy, he might one day be a Hall of Famer," Campbell said. The touchdown run was impressive. Barkley took a handoff from Eli Manning inside, cut it to the outside, stepped out of a tackle attempt and ran down the right sideline Jabrill Peppers Jerseys 2019 , getting a great block from receiver Sterling Shepard."It was amazing; it was a great feeling, but it was a feeling that came and went," Barkley said. "One touchdown is not going to win the game, and that touchdown didn't win the game this week, but to get in there, it was a dream come true to find the end zone. I did keep the ball, but it was just like 'Move on, next play,' and find a way to get in there again."For most of the game, the Jaguars held Barkley in check . Eleven of his 18 carries were for 3 yards or less."Yeah, obviously, you wish that they were all 75- and 80-yard runs, but it wasn't like that in college and I didn't expect it to be like that in the NFL," the 21-year-old said. "You have to take what they give you. It's kind of like playing chess: When you get your opportunity, you have to execute."Barkley said there was one play where he realized that NFL is going to be a lot different than college. He made a player miss on a run, broke outside and was tackled by free safety Tashaun Gipson Sr."In college, that was a touchdown," Barkley said. "It was a great play by him."It just reminded Barkley that big plays are special."Today, we didn't pop one until like the fourth quarter or end of the third, so you just have to continue to stay with it," he said. "That's what I kept saying, the offensive line and also to just stay with it, something is going to pop, and when they give us that chance, we have to make them pay for it."
lend Patriots a hand Kenjon Barner returned three punts through his first four NFL seasons. But there’s reason to think the New England Patriots agreed to terms with the veteran running back on Tuesday because of the work he fielded deep during his fifth.Barner re-signed with the Philadelphia Eagles late last September after ageless all-purpose threat Darren Sproles landed on injured reserve with a broken arm and torn ACL. He would finish his 2017 campaign having returned 28 punts for 250 yards – and with a Super Bowl LII ring.Prior to then Phillip Dorsett Jerseys 2019 , Barner had 19 yards on his NFL resume in that department. It’d been awhile. The 2013 sixth-round pick returned zero punts as a senior at Oregon and lost yardage in limited reps there as a junior. Yet between Barner’s freshman and sophomore seasons with the Ducks, he took 23 punts back for 269 yards and a touchdown. That background is of use in Foxborough after New England waived Riley McCarron on Monday – the same day Barner was in for a free-agent workout. McCarron, a recent practice-squad promotion, had a punt bounce off his facemask in the fourth quarter of the opener versus the Houston Texans, reminiscent of growing pains the likes of Chris Harper and Cyrus Jones endured in 2015 and 2016.Barner wasn’t immune with the Eagles in 2017, either. He muffed three punts last year courtesy of specialists Michael Palardy, Chris Jones and Marquette King. Two arrived on fair-catch attempts that drifted outside the numbers well inside the 20-yard line against the Carolina Panthers and the Dallas Cowboys. The other arrived against the Oakland Raiders as Barner looked to rebound a one-hopper.All were recovered by the Philadelphia’s unit, and Barner himself recovered a pair of them. But no recoveries were needed on Oct. 8 against the Arizona Cardinals when Barner earned NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Barner amassed 110 punt-return yards on just three goes of it in that 34-7 win for Philadelphia. It marked fourth-highest single-game tally in franchise history.Barner got 76 yards worth on one that looked dead in the water as Arizona’s Ifeanyi Momah and Tyvon Branch cornered him at Philadelphia’s own 15. He would tightrope the sideline and find a cutback lane to the inside, however. And on a diagonal course the well-traveled runner went to Arizona’s own 15.“With Kenjon, obviously we know him,” Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said of Barner during his day-after press conference. “We’ve had him in here before, so we really felt comfortable with bringing him back in and understanding what he can do. He’s just gotten better in these last couple weeks White Stephon Gilmore Jerseys , had great production in the game.” Barner, who compiled 50 total touchdowns as a rusher, receiver, kickoff and punt returner during his Ducks career, spent his rookie year with the Panthers. He was then swapped for a conditional seventh-round pick and logged his next three years with the Eagles.A spring-to-summer stop with the San Diego Chargers followed before Sproles’ injury sent him back to Philadelphia last fall.In his return, Barner appeared in every game despite touching the ball just 21 times on offense. He averaged 8.9 yards per on punts. And nine of his opportunities doing so, including playoffs, netted a pickup of double-digit yards.Barner, who was in training camp with Carolina before being let go on Labor Day weekend, may get his next opportunity Sunday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He finds himself the fourth running back on New England’s active roster for it, with Jeremy Hill placed on injured reserve to begin the week.“We won’t put anyone on the field if we don’t have trust in them, number one Stephon Gilmore Jerseys 2019 ,” Patriots special teams coordinator Joe Judge said of the responsibility during his conference call Tuesday, prior to news of Barner signing. “My job as a coach is to prepare everybody on the field the best I can and establish as much depth at every position as best I can, not just for finding the best 11 that are available at the time, but looking past that and seeing the ripple effect that may happen through inactives or in-game injuries or situational adjustments we’re going to have to have.“So, we’re always preparing multiple guys on the team. We’re always working ahead and thinking the ‘if, then, what’ type scenarios.”If, then or what, Barner should soon become the 10th player to return a punt in regular-season action for the Patriots since the start of 2015.Julian Edelman, Patrick Chung, Danny Amendola, Keshawn Martin White Lawrence Guy Jerseys , Damaris Johnson, Bernard Reedy and the aforementioned Harper, Jones and McCarron precede him. Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski caught the 78th touchdown pass of his career on Sunday, and that puts him in some very elite company. The 29-year-old Gronkowski is now tied for third all time for the most touchdown catches in NFL history for a player in his 20s. Randy Moss, who had 101 touchdown catches before turning 30, and Jerry Rice, who had 95 touchdown catches before turning 30, are the only players with more. Terrell Owens also had 78 touchdown catches before his 30th birthday.Gronkowski should catch at least a few more touchdown passes this season, before turning 30 in the offseason. He won’t catch Rice or Moss, but 80 or 85 touchdown catches before turning 30 is not too shabby.Injuries have limited Gronkowski for much of his career, and he’s already talking about walking away from the game. So it’s safe to say he won’t finish with anything close to Rice’s incredible total of 197 touchdown catches. But he’s already done more in his 20s than almost any player in NFL history.
fan pulled off the street might have done a better job running the Jets through the years than the people who actually have run the team.It sounds like a ridiculous thing to say at first that an average fan would be better than people who have spent decades in the league White Terrence Brooks Jerseys , but the Jets have made a staggering number of terrible decisions through the years that most fans hated at the time.Last night I saw a few people suggest the fanbase is so negative that people would hate the hire even if it was the reincarnation of Vince Lombardi, but that isn’t true. I speak with as many Jets fans as anybody. I know this is a fanbase starved for a winner. If you can provide a plausible path to success for any decision, most of the fans will sign up for it.When the majority of the fanbase revolts, it tends to be because a decision is so illogical that even the average fan knows it’s a bad idea. The only recent move I can remember where the fanbase overwhelmingly reacted angrily and was proven wrong was the drafting of Sheldon Richardson in 2013.Just think about the way this decade has gone. Remember the Tebow trade, the drafting of Dexter McDougle and Christian Hackenberg, and not signing any good cornerbacks in free agency in 2014 among others. These decisions were obviously terrible at the time. Most fans realized it, but somehow the people running the Jets didn’t.For a time yesterday it felt like the Jets were trending in the direction of Matt Rhule as their new head coach. I wrote an outline of an article with initial thoughts. It was almost split evenly into three parts. I had some positives about the hiring or Rhule, some negatives, and a lengthy list of unknowns. I would have been wait and see on him, but I know most fans eventually would have been optimistic about the hire.Let’s jump into some other initial takeaways. This feels like an uninspired hire.Throughout the process it felt like the fanbase was divided into two camps. One camp wanted to play it safe and go with the coach who had the best resume. That was Mike McCarthy. Hiring an inexperienced coach is risky. McCarthy has a track record of success in the NFL and understands how to be a head coach. Even if he doesn’t have the highest ceiling of the candidates, you know what you are getting. The other camp wanted the Jets to take a big swing and look for the next great coach. The thinking was that while McCarthy had the record of past success, there were aspects of his performance that might make it unlikely that he would sustain that level of success going forward. The Jets shouldn’t look for the guy who was a good coach. They should find the guy who will be a great coach and grow with Sam Darnold. There were multiple candidates in this category, including Todd Monken Terrence Brooks Jerseys 2019 , Matt Rhule, Kris Richard, and Kliff Kingsbury. To be honest, I thought both sides made valid arguments. I personally went back and forth between the camps during this process. In the end, I thought the camp that did not get its way would see the wisdom behind the decision and get on board, even if it wasn’t their first choice. But the Jets chose neither path. Instead, they opted for a retread who was just dumped to the scrap heap by a division rival. The process stunk to high heaven. This hire might be easier for me to rationalize if I felt the process behind it was good. Good process usually leads to good results. I think it’s very difficult to argue this was a good process. The search started with the Jets keeping one of the least effective general managers in the league to help oversee things. The CEO immediately took off the table the option to give his head coach hire control over personnel. This immediately took many options with clout off the table. The coaches who demand this power tend to be proven winners. The Jets then reportedly passed on Matt Rhule because they were heavy handed in demanding say over Rhule’s assistant coach hires. The front office getting control over the coaching staff hires a surefire way to undermine a head coach. If you won’t give a proven winner the power they would want or empower an up and coming star to leave his imprint on the team, you likely will end up with a mediocre hire, somebody so desperate to be a head coach that he will agree to any conditions to get the job.The real kicker in all of this is that in spite of the team’s heavy-handedness with Rhule, the Jets are apparently all right with Gase bringing in Dowell Loggains, a very shaky hire, as his offensive coordinator.I think Chris Johnson is in over his head.Jets CEO Chris Johnson spoke to the media on New Year’s Eve after the team fired Todd Bowles. The team did not televise the press conference or stream it live so we were left to rely on media tweets transcribing his comments. Some stuck out to me.I thought Johnson came off like a guy who thought he was holding all of the cards. And he wasn’t totally wrong. There were some attractive aspects of this Jets job. However, Johnson definitely did not hold all of the leverage. It’s tough to find a good coach to hire in this league. Eight teams were looking for new coaches this year. If three of them find successful long-term guys White Josh Martin Jerseys , I would be surprised. It isn’t as simple as saying, “If you want control over personnel or your coaching staff, we’ll go onto the next guy.” There are a finite number of quality head coaches, and the next guy might not be as good. Six years ago the Jets were looking for a general manager. They put a major condition on the job. The general manager had to keep Rex Ryan. The eventual hire was John Idzik, who was ill-equipped to handle the position. I have always thought the condition to keep Rex prevented potential candidates from pursuing the position. The Jets ended up with a guy nobody else wanted simply because it was the only chance he would ever get to be a general manager.Finding the right guy is tough enough. It’s a bad idea to further reduce the odds of success by artificially reducing the pool of potential candidates. The last three years matter a lot.One of the oddest justifications I have heard for this hiring is that Gase was a hot coordinator three years ago. Why do the last three years not matter? These years provide us with the most recent body of work. This is also the most relevant body of work because Gase was actually in the head coaching position.Imagine if another team hired Todd Bowles as its head coach. What would you say if one of their fans justified the move by saying something like, “Just four years ago he was a hot name and viewed as a creative defensive mind. Did that go away overnight? And look at the talent level on the Jets. Could anybody have won with those quarterbacks?”I don’t think you’d buy it. But that’s close to the story I’m hearing about Bowles.Adam Gase is not Doug Pederson.Even weirder was when a few media members tried to play the Doug Pederson card last night to defend the hire.I tweet very little from the GGN account, but I felt the need to respond. If you want to say original prognostications are sometimes wrong, it’s one thing. But it’s absurd to drop Doug Pederson’s name in this discussion. Gase and Pederson have both been head coaches for three years. Pederson has won a Super Bowl with his backup quarterback. If we are going to play the “How people were wrong about coaching hires” game, most observers at the time thought Gase was a stronger hire in Miami in 2016 than Pederson was in Philadelphia. That proved to be incorrect.Peyton Manning’s opinion doesn’t matter. It’s great that Peyton Manning apparently called Chris Johnson during the interview to vouch for Gase. Manning was a legendary quarterback. That doesn’t mean those playing skills are transferable to giving advice on a coaching hire. Manning has never run an NFL coaching search. He might have some insight to offer from the player’s perspective, but a lot more than that goes into finding a good coaching candidate.Gase seems like a coaching version of Mike Maccagnan. As you may know, I have been struck by much analysis of Mike Maccagnan’s job performance. It seems to me his failures have been excused, while his successes have been few, modest Josh Martin Jerseys 2019 , and overstated.I get a lot of the same vibes from Gase’s record. Gase was Peyton Manning’s coach. His record was bad because his talent was bad. That 7-9 record is actually impressive because of how little talent he had.None of this really distinguishes Gase. The positives are pretty lame and don’t even stand up to scrutiny. While Miami had a 7-9 record this year, the Dolphins had the third worst point differential in the league (worse than even the Jets), which suggest their actual level of performance was far less impressive than it initially looks on paper. The Jets should clean house if they don’t make the Playoffs in 2019.There are no more excuses. Mike Maccagnan has “his” coach. I have heard plenty about how the Jets are set up because they have the quarterback, a top three pick, and a ton of cap space. With all of these resources, a six seed in the AFC seems like a small ask. And now they have an experienced head coach who knows the AFC East. There shouldn’t be any on the job training necessary like there would be with a first time head coach. These guys should be able to hit the ground running. And there should be consequences for failure...............................I have seen some people say it is the fanbase’s job now to only speak positively of this hire and root for Gase.In September it will be the job of the fans to root for Gase. For now the job is to hold the organization accountable. The Jets as a franchise have been satisfied with mediocrity or worse for years. Fans have a right to expect more and voice their displeasure if they receive it.Yes, this hire could work well. Anything is theoretically possible. But I think even the biggest fan of this decision would have to admit that it requires some degree of faith that the Jets are seeing more in Gase than initially meets the eye. You have have faith that the Jets know more than everybody else.As I said at the top, moments like these haven’t turned out very well for this franchise so I think skepticism has been earned.Jets 2018 Roster Countdown: Number 20 Isaiah Crowell Isaiah Crowell is next in line for our Jets roster countdown.Name: Isaiah CrowellNumber: 20Year with Jets: 1stProjected Role: Running back 1A or 2His 2017: Crowell posted over 1,000 yards from scrimmage, recording 853 rushing yards on 206 attempts and 182 receiving yards on 28 receptions. The Jets brought him in as a free agent in the spring. 2018 will be a success if: Crowell provides a number complement to Bilal Powell. I think Powell will probably be the top back, but Crowell will see plenty of action. He will either serve as 1A to Powell’s 1 or a number 2 back with a heavy workload. The Jets will also probably utilize him plenty as a receiver and expect him to produce in that capacity as well.Odds of making the roster: Crowell will be on the team after the Jets gave him a nice free agent deal. He is a Lock (>99%).
White Marcus Murphy Jerseys , it sounds as if rookie quarterback Josh Allen might have made a positive impression on one of his harshest critics. After he was reminded this week of how Jacksonville cornerback Jalen Ramsey once referred to him as "trash," Allen was making his way off the field following a 24-21 victory over the Jaguars on Sunday when he was tapped him on the back. Allen turned to see Ramsey with his hand outstretched."He just shook my hand and said, 'Good job,'" Allen said."He's an ultimate competitor just like myself, and maybe it's a respect thing. I'm not really sure," he added. "But I appreciate that, and it takes a big man to do that."Showing few signs of the sprained right elbow that sidelined him the past five weeks, Allen completed a 75-yard touchdown pass to Robert Foster. Then the 22-year-old Allen punctuated his return by posing in the end zone with his biceps flexed after breaking two tackles and scoring the go-ahead touchdown on a 14-yard run at the start of the fourth quarter."I love the fire. He personifies Buffalo, right? He's a hard worker, blue-collar kid, and loves to compete," coach Sean McDermott said. "He's still so young, so again, let's manage expectations. It was a good start for him."Ramsey credited Allen for leading the Bills to the victory, but didn't exactly take back the comments he made about the quarterback in a story published in GQ magazine in August."It doesn't matter what I said. I'm sure that's really what he was thinking," Ramsey said. "You can have opinions, but it's about what you go out there and do. And what he did was go out there for his team and get a win."Allen was far from perfect while exhibiting some of the inconsistency he showed while going 2-3 before he got hurt in a 20-13 loss at Houston on Oct. 14. He finished 8 of 19 for 160 yards Marcus Murphy Jerseys 2019 , and his touchdown to Foster was the longest completion by a Bills quarterback since Week 2 of the 2016 season.Allen also had a team-leading 99 yards rushing to set a franchise record for quarterbacks. The Bills finished with 327 yards of offense for their second-best total this season and their top total with Allen at quarterback. He also didn't turn the ball over, after throwing five interceptions and losing a fumble in his previous six appearances. It was the type of development McDermott wanted to see from Allen. He started the rookie ahead of journeyman Matt Barkley, who led Buffalo to a 41-10 win over the New York Jets before the Bills' bye week. The Bills invested plenty into Allen by trading up five spots to select him seventh overall 鈥?the highest position in the draft order Buffalo has ever chosen a quarterback."It was a good start for him," McDermott added. "That's a heck of a defense out there."Allen set up Buffalo's first touchdown drive 鈥?a 6-yard run by Isaiah McKenzie 鈥?with a 32-yard pass to Kelvin Benjamin, who was being covered by Ramsey. The Bills then scored on their next possession on Allen's pass to Foster. Standing in the pocket, with pass-rushers Yannick Ngakoue and Dawuane Smoot closing in on him, Allen found Foster wide open up the right sideline.Allen didn't get to see the completion because he was hit just as he released the pass."Whether I'm standing up or laying down on the ground, a touchdown is a touchdown and that feeling won't change," he said. "It was awesome."Bills safety Jordan Poyer was impressed by what he saw from Allen."Jalen can say whatever he wants to say about Josh, but Josh came in there and handled that defense today," Poyer said.Allen played down any hint of bitterness he might hold against Ramsey."There was a lot of trash-talking before and after, but ultimately my job is to go out there and help this team win football games," he said. The Buffalo Bills will be without two veterans for the season finale against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Two more players are listed as questionable in the team’s final Friday injury report of the 2018 NFL season.Wide receiver Deonte Thompson, who injured his toe last week against the New England Patriots, has been ruled out for the game. He finishes his second tour of duty in Buffalo as a nearly total non-factor, having caught three passes for 37 yards on ten targets in five games with the team this year. Linebacker Julian Stanford, whose main contributions have come on special teams this year White Ryan Groy Jerseys , is also out for the finale. He injured his ankle and was carted off the field last week against the Patriots. Stanford finishes his first year in Buffalo with 15 tackles, one pass breakup, one forced fumble, one sack, one tackle-for-loss, and one quarterback hit. He is under contract next year, as the 28-year old signed a two-year deal worth $3 million this off-season. Running back Chris Ivory, who suffered a shoulder injury against the Detroit Lions, and cornerback Ryan Lewis, who suffered a concussion in the same game, are both questionable this week due to their respective injuries. Ivory is currently third on the team with 388 yards rushing, trailing only LeSean McCoy (48smile and Josh Allen (536) this year. He has 12 receptions for 159 yards. Lewis has appeared in seven games this year, starting three of them. He has 15 tackles, three pass breakups, and two forced fumbles on the year.

Good morning Jabrill Peppers Jerseys 2019 , New York Giants fans! There is a lot to talk about with the Giants, so let’s get right to it.Sterling Shepard: “Total faith in Eli”If there are players in the Giants’ locker room who don’t believe in quarterback Eli Manning, wide receiver Sterling Shepard isn’t one of them.“I have total faith in Eli. I haven’t heard that once in this locker room, I haven’t heard that from any individual player, so that’s just outside noise and stuff trying to break us apart. We’re doing a good job of keeping everything together in here. As far as in the locker room, we have total faith in him, we picked him as our starting quarterback at the beginning of the season and we’re going to ride with that.”Saquon Barkley think he can get betterThe Giants had a couple of extra days off after having played on Thursday night. Rookie running back Saquon Barkley said he used the to reflect on “what I could do better to help the team.”“I think I could be more efficient in the run game, continue to grow as a leader, pass pro, everything,” Barkley said. “That’s just kind of how I am. I’m very critical of all the little things and I think I can grow in every part of my game.”Around the Inter-GoogleHow it all went wrong for the Giants’ offenseWhen a team is assembled, and those doing the assembling view their creation one way and reality proves that view as fuzzy and blurred, the obvious question is...Debate: Has Darnold made Jets kings of New York over Eli, Giants? - New York Giants Blog- ESPNThe Giants have the better overall talent at the moment, but does the Jets' rookie QB give them a stronger foundation and prospect for success?Giants defend Eli Manning, even as other teams pile up pointsEli Manning might not be listening, but he is the subject of rampant criticism about his ability to perform for the Giants at 37 years old.Outwardly, the...Giants can barely even quibble with John Mara’s harsh wordsGuilty as charged. On Tuesday, Giants co-owner John Mara did not dance around the sad state of his team White Jon Halapio Jerseys , saying he is “embarrassed by 1-5.” The...Giants Waive WR Stacy Coley From Injured Reserve | NFLTradeRumors.coValentine’s Views: 10 things I think about the Giants at halfway point of preseason The New York Giants have reached the halfway point of the preseason. That means we have turned a corner and are heading down the home stretch toward the 2018 NFL regular season. Let’s stop, catch our breath for a second, and assess where the Giants are right now. Here are “10 things I think I think” heading into the third preseason game.I think the best development of the first two games has been the play of the starting defense. Aside, of course, from the pass “coverage” of Alec Ogletree. Through two games, the Giants are giving up just 2.13 yards per carry against the run, which would lead the league if those stats counted. The Giants wanted to build a wall against the run with Damon Harrison, B.J. Hill and Dalvin Tomlinson anchoring the line and it looks like they have done it. The pass rush has been a pleasant surprise. Now, maybe it is because the offensive lines of the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions aren’t exactly impenetrable, but the ability through two games to get pressure on opposing quarterbacks while sending just four rushers is a positive sign. Behind all of that, the pass coverage has been good enough.Raj Mehta-USA TODAY SportsI think I don’t care if Saquon Barkley or Odell Beckham Jr. plays another preseason snap. Maybe both guys get some work Friday against the New York Jets. Maybe they don’t. Doesn’t matter to me. I have seen enough from Beckham to know he is healthy, and he has been getting plenty of practice reps with Eli Manning. As for Barkley, I haven’t seen anything that tells me he isn’t ready. Let him work in practice once that hamstring heals and don’t expose him to extra hits. I think the Giants are going to have to help Patrick Omameh and Ereck Flowers. All of the pass pressure the Lions generated Friday with the starting line in the game came from the right side, with Omameh at guard and Flowers at tackle. It very nearly cost the Giants a sack fumble that would have set Detroit up inside the 5-yard line, but for a replay overturn. Omameh and Flowers are powerful players who will help in the run-blocking, but they are going to need help protecting Eli Manning if he is going to have time to take full advantage of the plethora of pass catchers the Giants have. I think I’ve been blown away by Kerry Wynn. For four seasons, Wynn has provided the Giants with decent depth at defensive end. He hasn’t been a dynamic play-maker or anything special. I have never thought he was more than a part-time player. This preseason? Wynn has been special. Five tackles on defense, four on special teams, a sack in two games. I really wondered how a 265-pound defensive end was going to function in James Bettcher’s defense. Well Jon Halapio Jerseys 2019 , Wynn is showing me. Whether he can keep up this kind of play in the regular season I have no idea, but he is proving that he will undoubtedly have value.I think Eli Manning is going to have a successful year. He’s shown nothing in the spring and summer that makes me think he won’t be able to get the ball to his play-makers on a consistent basis. If the offensive line gives him a chance I believe Manning will be able to survey the situation at the line of scrimmage, identify the mismatches and get the ball out to the right place.I think the Giants have to get a veteran swing tackle. I can’t say the idea of Chad Wheeler or Nick Becton coming off the bench to try and protect Manning is a comforting thought. I will be very surprised if the Giants don’t look to add someone once teams trim their rosters at the end of the preseason.I think there are still roster spots available at cornerback. I believe B.W. Webb and Leonard Johnson have done enough to make the roster. Both are veterans who know what they are doing, and Johnson in particular flashed a few times on Friday. Grant Haley? I’m just not sure yet. William Gay? The Giants have been using him at safety, and I’m just not sure where he fits. Donte Deayon? Can’t make the team if you can’t get on the field, and he hasn’t practiced or played in two weeks.I think the return game hasn’t been good enough. Neither Hunter Sharp, who fumbled twice on Friday, nor Kalif Raymond has distinguished themselves. If one of them is going to be the primary guy returning kickoffs and punts, they have to show more. I’m sure the Giants really don’t want to have to expose Beckham, Barkley and Sterling Shepard on returns — at least not on any type of regular basis.Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty ImagesI think this about the young quarterbacks. I think I’ve seen enough from both Davis Webb and Kyle Lauletta to think there is a chance the Giants will be OK at quarterback once Manning’s time is up. I didn’t write Webb off after a bad game, and I won’t anoint him after a good one. He has the tools, and they are worth being excited about. Lauletta doesn’t have Webb’s size or arm strength, but there is a lot to like. He missed a couple of throws Friday, but he makes good decisions, throws with excellent timing and usually good accuracy, can make plays with his feet and does a good job protecting the ball. As coach Pat Shurmur has said, he finds a way.I think the Giants are more prepared than they were a year ago. And yes, you can clearly read this as a shot at Ben McAdoo. A year ago, the Giants spent much of training camp conducting walk-thrus White Curtis Riley Jerseys , practicing in shorts and shells and doing very little hitting. There were only a few padded practices, probably less than five. This year, new coach Pat Shurmur has had the Giants in pads at every opportunity. There have been no wasted practices. The joint practices in Detroit, especially the first two, should be a huge plus. I have no idea how the Giants will make out against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans in the first three games of the season but I know that at least this season the Giants will be ready when the season opens.I think it’s cool that Saquon Barkley got to meet Barry Sanders on Friday. I think it’s a bummer that Barkley didn’t bring his Barry Sanders action figure to Detroit so Sanders could sign it. No one will ever be Sanders, but Barkley’s elusiveness and ability to cut with power and speed sometimes remind of Sanders. The other Hall of Famer Barkley sometimes reminds me of, and you probably need to be an old guy to appreciate this, is Gale Sayers. Like those two, Barkley in the open field is an utter nightmare for defenses.I think I’m already dreading Jets-Giants week. I can’t imagine how many Barkley vs. Sam Darnold, Darnold vs. Manning, Darnold vs. Webb/Lauletta, Jets-Giants battle for supremacy stories I’m going to have to read. Or, for that matter, write.E-mail Ed at bigblueview@gmail.com if you have questions or comments.

Now three years shy of 70 White Shaq Mason Jerseys , Patriots coach Bill Belichick is still going strong. Arguably the greatest coach of all time in any sport, Belichick turns 67 today. He has shown no signs of slowing down, and he has given no indication that he has even considered stepping aside. With 261 career wins, Belichick needs only 67 more victories to catch Don Shula. At 11 wins per year — a number that most teams fail to achieve even once every 11 years achieve but that the Patriots have realized on a consistent basis — Belichick would need to coach for another six seasons to get within striking distance, pushing him to the age of 73.The biggest challenge for Belichick will come after quarterback Tom Brady retires. Will Belichick get to double digits on a regular basis without Brady? If not, Belichick will need to coach a lot longer than six more years to have a shot at catching and passing Shula.Maybe Belichick will. Two years ago Shaq Mason Jerseys 2019 , Patriots owner Robert Kraft said that he’d like Belichick to coach into his 80s.It’s hard to imagine a guy who has given his life to football to not have football in his life. Some think that, whenever he stops coaching, he’ll assume an executive-level position (like Bill Parcells and Tom Coughlin have down) with another team, possibly with a small slice of equity in the organization. If the Patriots were interested in Jared Cook before, they definitely should be now.And the Saints should be in a hurry. With the surprise (in timing, if not content) retirement of Rob Gronkowski White Chris Hogan Jerseys , the Patriots are suddenly caught short at the position they’re traditionally deepest at.Cook’s coming off a career year with the Raiders, and was close to an agreement with the Saints. He was close enough that he was willing to talk about how great it was going to be to catch passes from quarterback Drew Brees. But if he thinks it would be “pretty awesome” to play with Brees, he’d likely be just as excited about playing with Tom Brady. And he can use that reality to try to get a little extra out of the Saints if he chooses. For the Patriots, the depth chart is anything but deep at the moment. They released Dwayne Allen (who went to Miami) and there’s little of note left on the market (beyond Jaguars free agent Austin Seferian-Jenkins). They currently employ Stephen Anderson, Matt LaCosse, Jacob Hollister Chris Hogan Jerseys 2019 , and Ryan Izzo. The Patriots have proven themselves capable of adjusting to many situations in the past, but there’s no replacement for a future Hall-of-Famer, which will require them to do business differently. They tried to circle back on wide receiver Adam Humphries after he agreed to a deal with the Titans, so it’s not out of character 鈥?or a bad idea.
The Jets won their preseason opener over the Falcons by a score of 17-0. Here are some of my positive and negative takeaways from the game.*Note - the “it’s only preseason” disclaimer applies to every line below.POSITIVESQuarterbacks: Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Darnold were both terrific. Bridgewater captained two scoring drives Brandon Shell Jerseys 2019 , completing 7 of 8 passes for 85 yards. He was mostly on time and accurate and was comfortable inside the pocket, bouncing back from contact.Darnold finished 13 of 18 for 96 yards and 1 touchdown. His first drive was a thing of beauty. 10 plays, 64 yards, and culminating in a touchdown to Charles Johnson right after Johnson blew two Darnold touchdowns with a drop in the end zone and an offensive pass interference. Darnold spread the ball to a multitude of receivers across the reserve depth chart. He showcased his mobility and ability to scan the field. He did not generate anything downfield, but he was not helped by an array of miscommunications with his receivers and his supporting cast failing to separate deep. Darnold can still improve here, but it’s not an area of concern just yet. He came in and was poised and promising. He looked far from lost - and that was the primary aspect you wanted to see. He looked like an NFL quarterback.Tight ends: Clive Walford and Neal Sterling stood out. Sterling caught 4 balls for 38 yards. Walford caught 2 for 27. Both generated some of the Jets’ only downfield passing yardage and did a nice job moving the sticks.Nathan Shepherd: He showcased a great motor and was very active throughout the game. One play that stood out to me most was a late tackle made by a teammate in which Shepherd ate up about 3 blockers to open up the lane to the ball. He seems to already have enough wherewithal to make use of his tremendous body and be disruptive from the get-go.Neville Hewitt: He took advantage of an Xavier Cooper tip for an interception and racked up 8 tackles and an additional defended pass.Derrick Jones: Jones was mostly solid in coverage and stood out with an impressive lockdown rep on a 4th down goal-line fade. It was nice to see him back up a lot of his preseason hype.First-team offensive line: The Jets seemed to run the ball very well with the starters in. Spencer Long stood out to me on multiple plays.Entire defense: The Jets’ defense obliterated the Falcons’ offense throughout the game at every level of the depth chart. The Jets owned the line of scrimmage White Eric Tomlinson Jerseys , tackled well, and held up in the red zone.NEGATIVESTrenton Cannon: He muffed two punts that were fortunately both recovered by the Jets. With the Jets sporting a 3-deep RB depth chart when Elijah McGuire is healthy, Cannon really needs to show versatility to stick on the roster. Proving himself all but incapable of playing the punt returner position was not a step towards that goal.Cannon did showcase solid change-of-direction quickness as a rusher, however.Chris Herndon: Herndon mysteriously did not appear at the game, with little information on his absence available at this point. The rookie has created a lot of preseason buzz but definitely lost at least some ground to his competition tonight.ArDarius Stewart and Chad Hansen: Twelve Jets caught a pass tonight, and none of them were among the 2 wide receivers selected by the team in last year’s draft. Stewart saw only 2 targets and flubbed both. He ran a poor route that nearly led to a Darnold interception and then dropped a route crossing over the field. Hansen did not even earn a target. This was not what either of these young players needed to earn ground in a crowded receiver competition. What were your thoughts? Good morning Eric Tomlinson Jerseys 2019 , Gang Green Nation! I hope everyone’s having a great start to their day. We’ve basically reached the ‘meh’ portion of the season, where the biggest news coming out of Jet-land is the hit Jamal Adams laid out on a Patriots’ mascot at the Pro Bowl recently that supposedly landed the mascot in the hospital. It turns out that was ‘fake news’, was all part of a pre-planned ordeal, and the mascot in fact did not go to the hospital. The Senior Bowl will be played today, with lots of studs from the college ranks showcasing themselves for scouts and GM’s in the hopes that their performances will get their name called on day one of the draft. Maybe a GM will fall in love with a QB so much they try to trade with the Jets and we can get a good jump on this ‘rebuild’. for the Jets could come Sunday. The rookie quarterback will be monitored in practice this week before the team determines whether he will start against the Buffalo Bills. The first test will be whether he practices fully Wednesday when the Jets get back to work.“That remains to be seen White Jordan Poyer Jerseys ,” coach Todd Bowles said during a conference call Monday. “I expect him to be out there. We’ll evaluate him as he goes out there.”Bowles said Darnold took “a great number” of snaps during practice last week and was healthy enough to play against Tennessee on Sunday. But Bowles and the Jets chose to start Josh McCown because the rookie would have some rust after missing two games.Darnold strained his right foot against Miami on Nov. 4 and hasn’t played since.“He was prepared, but you’re not going to come in three days as a rookie and be fresh off your reads and not have any rust to go in a ballgame and play on Sunday after you’ve been out for two weeks,” Bowles said. “You need some time to get your timing back and everything else.“So, we’ll continue to give him reps and when I think he’s ready, he’ll play.”The Jets are 0-3 with McCown as the starter, with the 39-year-old QB throwing one TD pass and four interceptions — including one that sealed New York’s 26-22 loss to Tennessee on Sunday. Darnold still leads the NFL with 14 interceptions, despite his three-game layoff.Last week Jordan Poyer Jerseys 2019 , the No. 3 overall pick said he was eager to play again, but also acknowledged he learned quite a bit from watching rather than playing. That said, the final four games would give Darnold significant experience and give him a chance to end his first NFL season on a positive note.“I’ll just see where he is from an accuracy standpoint, a timing standpoint, (and) a rust standpoint,” Bowles said. “He’s got to see plays and I had him only throwing three (days) last week. He did get better and everything was fine, but he’ll get better even this week and then we’ll make that determination on Sunday.” The Buffalo Bills lost to the New England Patriots this past Sunday White Logan Thomas Jerseys , which isn’t exactly anything new. And just like he always does, Tom Brady tore apart the Bills with his arm going 12-for-24, for 126 yards. He had one touchdown through the air and two interceptions. Brady’s 48.3 passer rating was light years ahead of Brian Hoyer’s 39.6. Hoyer attempted one pass in garbage time when Brady was pulled for his safety. If you’re curious, the pass was incomplete. Yep. Good Ol’ Touchdown Tom did it again. I doubt the 273 rushing yards the Patriots had were a major factor. Let’s um, check in on our run-stopping defensive tackle Star Lotulelei. For no particular reason at all. WARNING: Since many people are on vacation, I assumed you all have plenty of time for extra studying this week. Play 1The Patriots immediately double team Star Lotulelei but Corey Thompson necessitates one of the blockers picking him up. Star moves into the lane and knocks the runner over. You’ll see a pattern where the Patriots attempt to negate Lotulelei whenever they see him. As a side note, I went a little GIF crazy this week. The breakdown accounts for 11 of Star’s 35 snaps. Play 2The defensive play call has Lotulelei lined up ready to push to the inside. While he could drive to his left off the snap Logan Thomas Jerseys 2019 , it’d be awkward. The Patriots look like they’ve prepared for this and the guard actually helps Lotulelei get to where he’s going. Another trend to notice: The Patriots attempted to avoid the middle of the field when they could. There’s a fun table at the end, but the most production came to the edges with plays like this. Play 3Two offensive linemen attack Lotulelei right away. One breaks off to pick up Tremaine Edmunds, but the double team has already been as successful as it needed to be. A nice block (and perhaps a little offensive holding) negate Corey Thompson and it’s off to the races. This was one of the best runs of the day logged as occurring in the middle of the formation. Play 4Two things jump out on this play. The first is noted in the GIF. The Patriots have seemingly planned specifically for Lotulelei. The hand-off pushing out to the side a little with the blocker making a beeline right for Star is suspicious after the linemen let him through. The second thing to notice is how quickly Lotulelei reacts to the hand-off. He’s initially looking to hit Brady, but is starting to change immediately. Play 5Yet again the Patriots are happy to double team Lotulelei, and yet again he’s happy to clog up a ton of room. And again the run is away from Lotulelei’s area. Another nod to his play recognition as Star sheds his blocks and is in the play before the runner can be dropped. Play 6First things first, he did NOT cross the goal line. With that out of the way, the same trends hold up. The Patriots are nearly refusing to run at Star. For a third time Youth Zay Jones Jerseys , his play recognition gets him closer to making a play than he has any reason to. Play 7If there’s a question on where Star was during this game, perhaps it should be asked of the coaches. The run-stuffing tackle was in on 47% of plays. The Patriots ran on 65% of their offensive snaps. And Star was in on a handful of passing plays to boot, probably ending with him being on the field for about half the run plays. Here Lotulelei likely impacts the pass as he’s quickly in the backfield. Brady doesn’t seem thrilled by this development. Play 8Very briefly, this is the same trick as before. The pre-snap alignment makes it hard for Lotulelei to move to his right (our left). The Patriots help Lotulelei move in his natural direction and run away from him. One extra note is that Brady took a long time giving directions pre-snap, making at least two tweaks to the play before he was happy. Play 9It wasn’t that the Bills weren’t adjusting to some of what the Patriots were doing. Here an empty backfield should be able to take advantage of the Bills’ run-stuffing line. Tremaine Edmunds communicates an adjustment and Star Lotulelei moves wide to help set up the pass rush. The Bills’ adjustment leads to relatively quick pressure. One bad throw later and Jordan Poyer has it for Buffalo. Play 10This was a rare occasion where the Patriots ran anywhere near Star. With everyone moving, they don’t need to push the Bills back to create a lane. This isn’t Lotulelei’s best play as he loses his balance, but he still manages to get enough push to impact the path of the runner. That slight deviation pushes the ball carrier into Lorenzo Alexander’s man Zay Jones Jerseys Stitched , and the result is a tripped Patriot. Play 11The Bills are looking to shut down a goal-to-go situation and that’s precisely the time for the big men to shine. Lotulelei is predictably double-teamed to start. It’s not enough to move him back and the runner needs to go around, which can be a death knell with the field this compressed. SummaryTo be clear, the above isn’t presented to make the case that Star Lotulelei is playing at an All-Pro level. He is however, playing at a high enough level where the New England Patriots appear to have focused a great deal of attention in avoiding him and accounting for him when that wasn’t possible—and he still made some plays. The data in the table below comes courtesy of Pro Football Reference. There’s a lot to unpack, but the main point for Star is the last row (light blue). The middle section of the field is the area that he would be the main force in locking down. The Patriots were far less successful running up the middle, and Star Lotulelei is a big reason why.

The question is who will be on the receiving end?The answer will likely come from a combination of players currently on the roster, draft picks, and free agents. It’s not fair to say the Giants will try to replace Odell Beckham because strictly replacing a player like Beckham is nearly impossible. A quick reminder of Beckham’s accomplishment’s throughout his five years with the Giants:He had at least 1,000 receiving yards in four of those seasons. In the only season when he failed to reach that number, he played in only four games. He is already second in franchise history with 5,476 receiving yards despite being fourth in receptions and fifth in targets (tracked back to 1992).Beckham was also the fastest receiver to 5,000 career receiving yards in terms of games played. He needed just 54, which beat Julio Jones’s previous record of 56 career games.Let’s also not forget the impact he had on Eli Manning and the difference in the quarterback’s performance compared to when Beckham was on the field compared to when he wasn’t.So while the Giants won’t be able to replace Beckham, we can take a look at how the Giants can try to build their passing game going forward. The current rosterSterling Shepard is your No. 1 wide receiver. That’s not exactly a role Shepard is fit to play. He’s a great asset as a No. 2, especially with his ability to play both inside and outside. But when the offense has to run through Shepard Cheap Dexter Lawrence Jersey , things aren’t as efficient. Here’s a look at Shepard’s splits from Weeks 1-13 in 2018 when Beckham played and Weeks 14-17 when he was out.2018 Sterling Shepard splitsWeeksTargets/ReceptionsYardsSlot%EPA/TargetaDOTTarget ShareWeeksTargets/ReceptionsYardsSlot%EPA/TargetaDOTTarget Sharestatistical data provided by Sports Info Solutions, aDOT per airyards.comWith Beckham on the field, Shepard was able to stay in the slot for nearly three-quarters of his targets. He was also able to command the intermediate part of the field and did so quite well. Without Beckham, Shepard was in the slot for just over half of his targets and was targeted over three and a half yards further down the field on average. His efficiency plummeted under the heavier workload. The opposite was the case for Evan Engram, who saw his production increase in the final four games without Beckham.2018 Evan Engram splitsWeeksTargets/ReceptionsYardsSlot/Outside%EPA/TargetaDOTTarget ShareWeeksTargets/ReceptionsYardsSlot/Outside%EPA/TargetaDOTTarget Sharestatistical data provided by Sports Info Solutions, aDOT per airyards.comPart of that coincides with Engram coming back from an injury and getting closer to 100 percent as the season progressed. But, it’s also clear the more Engram was involved in the offense, the more productive he was. The interesting part of Engram’s improvement without Beckham is how his percentage of targets that came from the slot or outside decreased in the final four games. He was also targeted slightly further down the field, though Engram could still be used better as a vertical threat. Per Sports Info Solutions, Engram was only targeted on two seam routes all season, which ranked 28th among tight ends in 2018. Rhett Ellison was targeted on three. Rob Gronkowski and David Njoku tied for the lead at 12. Travis Kelce was next with 10. That’s how receiving tight ends should be used and it should be something the Giants implement more with Engram in the future.Saquon Barkley will also be a big part of the passing game, but his role will have to be significantly more efficient for it to matter — a usage concern that has been raised many times before. Despite having just three fewer targets than Odell Beckham in 2018, Barkley’s impact on the passing game was much less impactful. Per SIS, Barkley’s 120 targets were worth negative-1.7 Expected Points Added and just 42 percent resulted in a positive play. Compare that to Beckham Womens Dexter Lawrence Jersey , who tallied 32.3 EPA on 123 targets with a positive play rate of 52 percent. Those three should take up the bulk of the targets in the immediate future. After them, the Giants still have a rotation of underwhelming No. 3/4/5 types like Corey Coleman, Jawill Davis, and Quadree Henderson. All three showed more special teams ability than passing game impact in 2018.Free AgencyThis is not the place to try to grab an impact wide receiver. There are no potential No. 1’s here because teams do not allow potential No. 1’s to get to the open market — it’s why looking at the names on the 2020 market will be flawed. The best options currently available include Tyrell Williams — a great vertical threat likely to be overpaid and miscast as a No. 1 option for a desperate team (note: between submitting this article and it getting posted, Williams has signed with the Oakland Raiders) — and Golden Tate — an efficient YAC-heavy slot receiver, who is going to want to go to a good situation after spending the past four and a half years in Detroit. After that, it’s role players who will probably cost more than their value to a team — pieces like Phillip Dorsett and Ryan Grant. Even someone like Devin Funchess, a former Dave Gettleman draft pick, got a one-year deal worth $10 million from the Indianapolis Colts. The wide receiver market might be the least efficient way to spend money in free agency.Where the Giants could potentially get talent is on the restricted free agent market, a typically underused avenue. Giving up a second-round pick and a new contract for someone like Robby Anderson probably isn’t in the cards, but targeting a player who was given an original-round tender might be an option. On that note, the Giants could potentially turn back to Cleveland and look at Rashard Higgins. The Browns only gave Higgins an original round tender, which would cost the Giants a fifth-round pick should they give him an offer sheet. That would mean the Giants would have to give Higgins a new likely multi-year deal, but it could be worth it. Higgins won’t turn 25 years old until October and would probably be the top free agent available were he not restricted. Cleveland still has a massive amount of cap space to potentially match a deal the Giants would offer Men Dexter Lawrence Jersey , but it might not even be worth the investment for them given what’s on the roster with Beckham, Jarvis Landry, and Antonio Callaway.Last year, Higgins ranked 12th in EPA per target among 83 wide receivers who saw at least 50 targets. That’s more than a team could hope for any fifth-round pick, even given the salary premium over a rookie deal. It’s not a perfect option, but it might be the best one the Giants currently have for relatively cheap talent with upside. The draftThis draft class presents an interesting group of receivers. There is no clear future No. 1 — save for your feelings on D.K. Metcalf — but there could be a number of useful options in a modern passing game. The problem is wondering how Gettleman scouts the position with his three swings at the position — Kelvin Benjamin and Devin Funchess in the first round and Curtis Samuel in the second — leaving much to be desired.Metcalf could be the option with the most upside, but he’ll be taken in the first round, which would fall into a trap NFL teams consistently put themselves in — taking a player at the same position traded away for the draft pick. Those exchanges never work. The history of first-round wide receivers since Beckham’s 2014 class also hasn’t shown the position has continued to develop in college like others such as tight end.Later in the draft, though, the Giants could have some intriguing options and while this looked to be a defense-heavy draft, the team now has a big need to fill for a pass catcher. In the second round, Iowa State’s Hakeem Butler could be an ideal target. Butler has the size (6-foot-5) and speed (4.48 40-yard dash at the combine) to be a matchup nightmare in the modern NFL. Butler is sixth in this class by Target Yards Added and per the Sports Info Solutions Rookie Handbook, Butler was third in yards per route run while handling nearly a third of Iowa State’s target share in 2018. Stanford’s JJ Arcega-Whiteside is a similar option but with unknown athletic ability after not testing in Indianapolis. If the Giants want until the third round or later, there should still be some useful role players available Youth Dexter Lawrence Jersey , though not anyone likely to change an offense. The most intriguing options could be Missouri’s Emanuel Hall, Ohio State’s Terry McLaurin, Texas Tech’s Antoine Wesley, and Texas’s Lil’Jordan Humphrey.Eli Manning says he’s “on good terms” with Odell Beckham Eli Manning has had 15 seasons of practice at putting out fires for the New York Giants, deflecting drama, smoothing things over when they got messy. So, it shouldn’t have come as a surprise that when asked Monday about the Odell Beckham Jr. ESPN interview he deflected with humor.“I don’t watch Lil Wayne that much,” said Manning, claiming not to know exactly what Beckham said.“Coach handled the situation well,” Manning said. “I think Odell, having him address the team, and setting the record straight from his point-of-view. I think that was smart and big by him to get in that situation and kind of own up to what was going on, and just kind of set the record straight so we can just avoid the distractions, avoid this and that Color Rush Dexter Lawrence Jersey , and just worry about playing football.”What about the idea that Beckham didn’t support the quarterback during the interview?“I’ve never had a receiver that doesn’t want that ball more, and doesn’t want the ball thrown to him down the field and scoring touchdowns. That’s part of handling that,” Manning said. “When you get a guy with social media and everything now, the ability you have to reach a crowd and express your opinions about everything on a whim, it can cause more drama. That’s just the world we’re living in and how you deal with it.”Manning said that he and Beckham are “always close, we’re tight, and we’re on good terms.” He added that in his mind the firestorm caused by the remarks is over.“Yeah, I think that was good just for the whole team to hear it. When you have new guys and young guys that don’t know him or not familiar with him, I think it was good just so other guys aren’t talking about it or worried about it, or trying to change how they pregame, we have to get more energy, this or that,” he said. “I think you kind of just end it and just move on and let’s worry about winning a football game.”

Final Score: Jets 34 Jets Quinnen Williams Jersey , Broncos 16 In a big turn around from the abysmal Jets performances of the last few weeks, the New York Jets dominated the Denver Broncos at home in every phase of the game on their way to a 34-16 win.Jets rookie quarterback Sam Darnold bounced back from a few poor performances with an efficient performance that included a couple of long scoring strikes to Robby Anderson.Terrelle Pryor contributed a spectacular scoring grab. The Jets running game was superb, with Isaiah Crowell breaking out with a huge 219 yard performance, including a magnificent 77 yard scoring run. Bilal Powell chipped in with another 99 yards.Andre Roberts contributed with a big 50 yard punt return to set up a score, and the Jets defense settled down after giving up some big early runs and an early passing score to take care of business and limit the Broncos to just 9 points after the 1st quarter. To cap it off, Leonard Williams finally came alive with two sacks, dominating his matchups all day. This was a complete team performance by the Jets, getting the job done against a Denver team coming off a short week and traveling across the country. Those are the types of games you are supposed to win at home, and for one week the Jets did not disappoint. With the win the Jets record goes to 2-3, and for at least one week all is right in Jets land. John will be around for the happy recap of today’s game a bit later this evening. In the meantime leave your comments on the game below. NEW YORK (AP) — Sam Darnold had a tough time sitting through film of the game. New York Jets fans certainly know the feeling. After throwing four interceptions in an ugly 13-6 loss at Miami on Sunday , the rookie quarterback shouldered the blame and was looking for answers.“For me, it’s just not playing to the best of my ability and, quite frankly, just playing stupid,” Darnold said Monday. “I thought I played stupid football yesterday and I’ve just got to be better. I know that, the coaches know that and everyone knows that.”Well Youth Quinnen Williams Jersey , yeah. But Darnold isn’t alone. Not by any stretch. Most of the venom from frustrated fans on social media and sports talk radio was directed at coach Todd Bowles, whose hold on his job has become increasingly tenuous as the Jets (3-6) head toward another year — it would be eight straight — without making the playoffs.“I’m sick of losing,” second-year safety Jamal Adams said after the game. “I’m not a loser. I want to get back on the winning track. We’ve lost three straight? Come on, man.”This is now a franchise staring at a crossroads. The Jets have a home game Sunday against the bumbling Buffalo Bills (2-7), who somehow look even more inept than their AFC East counterparts.“I think it’s huge,” Bowles acknowledged. “It’s our next game. It’s a division rivalry. … Winning takes care of a lot problems and a lot of issues. It’s important for us to win the next ballgame.”A loss at MetLife Stadium will raise the heat under Bowles’ seat to scorching levels. And, it could force owner Christopher Johnson to seriously re-evaluate things — especially with the team heading into a bye-week break.“People are obviously a little upset, a little disappointed, coming off three straight losses,” defensive lineman Leonard Williams said. “We definitely needed this one. It was a division game and we talked all week about how important it was for us to get this win.”And, they still lost. But there are enough culprits to share the blame.“It’s not just Sam, it’s the team, period,” Bowles said. “Yesterday, it was mainly the offense. It was tweaks here and there, but we just have to play better and execute as a whole.”Darnold Color Rush Quinnen Williams Jersey , of course, had his worst game to date. Center Spencer Long had several wayward shotgun snaps because of a reinjured right middle finger before Bowles finally pulled him from the game. Jeremy Bates’ offense seemed stuck in neutral, and wide receivers rarely gave Darnold a target. And, even the normally sure-handed Jermaine Kearse had a few drops and capped a bad day by forgetting where he was on the field before catching a pass late in the game while standing out of bounds.“I’m very concerned because we didn’t score a bunch of points the last three weeks,” Bowles said. “We’ve got to find a way to execute better and get it right.”Darnold’s OK with pointing the finger at himself. But it has raised the thought he might be best served sitting for a week just to clear his head while 39-year-old backup Josh McCown takes the field.A quarterback change, however, doesn’t appear to be in the plans.“Not at this time,” Bowles said, “no.”Darnold, the No. 3 overall draft pick, leads the NFL with 14 interceptions and has struggled during the last three games. He said “I thought I played bad” on Sunday and added he thought the offensive line “blocked their butts off.”Still, the Jets scored six points and have 33 in their last three games combined.“I’ve just got to play smarter, play better,” he said. “Yeah, I definitely feel like I forced some things (Sunday), but at the same time New York Jets Jersey 2019 , I feel like there were some throws where I was second-guessing myself and I could’ve pulled the trigger.”The last thing the Jets want is for their still-developing franchise QB is to become increasingly gun-shy.“I think it’s just me at some moments in the game getting in my own head,” Darnold said. “I’ve just got to stay true to my progressions, stay true to the confidence that I normally have, and just go out there and sling it.”The defense was mostly solid, allowing just 168 total yards, the second fewest under Bowles. That included 104 yards passing, the lowest under Bowles.Yet, the Jets still came up short in a game they all acknowledged they should have won.“I think the biggest consensus overall, for the players and for the coaches and as an organization, we all know that sticking together is what’s going to help us continue the season,” Williams said. “If we start dividing now, if coaches start dividing from players and players from players and coaches from coaches — any type of division in this organization — is only going to hinder us.”

Yesterday’s final practice report of the week included only one name for the club: defensive edge Deatrich Wise Jr. is questionable to play because of an ankle injury. However, it appears as if the second-year man will be good to go tomorrow: according to a report by The Athletic’s Jeff Howe, Wise Jr. is expected to be ready despite being limited in practice all week long. This is of course good news for a New England team that has faced some questions on its defensive edge this year. While Trey Flowers is locked in on one end of the line, the other side is subject to a rotation.Wise Jr. plays a key role in it and over the Patriots’ last two games was the top option opposite Flowers with Adrian Clayborn a healthy scratch.
