updt from bloomberg Indonesia Raises $65 Mln From Bank Niaga Stake Sale (Update1) (Adds sale price in second paragraph.) By Shanthy Nambiar and Soraya Permatasari Nov. 30 (Bloomberg) – Indonesia sold a minority stake in PT Bank Niaga, the nation''s ninth-largest lender, raising 585.8 billion rupiah ($65 million) to fund its budget deficit, the asset-sale agency said. Investors demanded 14 times the more than 1.27 billion shares, equivalent to a 16.28 percent stake, offered by the government in the sale completed today, Mohammad Syahrial, president director of PT Perusahaan Pengelola Aset, the asset sale agency, said in Jakarta. The shares were sold at 460 rupiah apiece, matching yesterday''s closing price. Indonesia is selling state assets, including bank stakes, to raise funds to cover a budget deficit estimated at 26.3 trillion rupiah this year. Asset sales are also aimed at recouping part of the more than 450 trillion rupiah the government spent to bail out lenders after the 1997 Asian financial crisis. ``They are trying to generate as much money as they can from any asset sales,'''' said Irvin Patmadiwiria, who helps manage $220 million at PT Batavia Prosperindo Aset Manajemen in Jakarta. On Nov. 5, the Finance Ministry said the government plans to sell its remaining stakes in banks, including PT Bank CentralAsia and PT Bank Internasional Indonesia, by the end of this year to raise 10.68 trillion rupiah. Bank Niaga''s sale was managed by UBS AG and PT Danareksa Sekuritas. Share Trading Suspended Shares of Niaga were suspended from trading today, the Jakarta stock exchange said. The stock, which has risen 31.4 percent this year, fell 10 rupiah, or 2.3 percent, to 460 rupiah at the close yesterday. Bank Niaga is fairly valued at 460 rupiah a share, said investors such as Raymond Gin in Jakarta. Niaga is trading at 1.8 times its book value compared with the Indonesian banking industry''s average of 2.5 times book value, according to Bloomberg data. ````We may buy the shares,'''' Gin, who helps manage the equivalent of $1.11 billion as head of equities and corporate debt at PT Manulife Asset Management in Jakarta, said before the completion of the sale. ``It''s good value.'''' Manulifeholds Indonesian bank shares, including PT Bank Mandiri and PT Bank Central Asia Bank Niaga has forecast profit to rise to 500 billion rupiah this year from 467.3 billion rupiah in 2003. It plans to extend 2.5 trillion rupiah in new loans in the second half of the year, most of it to small-and medium-sized companies and to consumers, President Director Peter B. Stok said earlier. Niaga''s net income rose to 435 billion rupiah in the first nine months of the year from 330 billion rupiah a year ago. UBS and Danareksa will also help manage the sale on the stock market of minority stakes in three more lenders this year. The government had a 21.5 percent stake in Niaga, a lender partly owned by Malaysia''s Commerce Asset-Holding Bhd., before today''s sale.
